My son (current HS junior) has an opportunity for a summer internship in the science field, and has been asked to submit a brief CV to the lead doctor/researcher. Any suggestions for what he should include? He doesn't have any other formal research experience. He's at a very competitive independent school taking advanced science and math courses. Thanks for any input.

I would focus on EC and any volunteering. Is he advanced in math/science? Put it on as well. Included a reference letter if possible, even if not asked for specifically.

I'd include the relevant course work and grades. If not 'formal' research experience, any informal projects that are related could be added. Any work experience in general would be useful to include as well. If it helps, for this level, I would much prefer someone who has experience in any kind of job (esp if an employer can verify how they are responsible, organized, detail oriented), rather than their education per se (given the kinds of pragmatic things they'd be doing as my research assistant).

Courses and grades that are in relevant areas of study, any awards, science competitions, projects, etc. Anything that shows curiosity and initiative will be helpful as well.

If it is a job in a science lab, don't list ECs that are irrelevant. It will only annoy the PI.
