CVW questions

I used this wonderful site when my son went to SS in June. Buffalo was very helpful, and I hope he is doing well. My son's BGO is basically helpful when we have any questions, but sometimes we need an extra voice. He seems very vague at times. My son received his "qualified, letter to compete", we received the CVW invitation yesterday, we are going in February. He had his congressional interview 3 weeks ago, and awaiting that status. Does everyone get an invitaion to the CVW? Are the chances better if you receive one? My son is still waiting for the ROTC scolarship status also. Thanks, for any insight helencp3

Helencp3~Best of luck. We have heard it is a plus to receive CVW invitation but I read threads from others last year that received one and then didn't get in. I guess any invitation is a plus! My son has his qualified to compete letter, went to CVW in the fall and is in the nomination interview process this week. I started a post on CVW in November and documented his expereience there as did others. My son also applied for NROTC and heard in October good news. I believe the waiting time gets longer now as this is a heavy time for applicants. He went to SS also. It sounds like we are in similar situations and we're just waiting too. Everyone he met along the way (so far anyway) didn't hear until mid April or May so we're in for the long haul if he is fortunate enough to receive a nomination. Feel free to email me directly! Best of luck! Juniormom :-)

If you read the threads on CVW, I think that you will conclude that getting an invitation is important but not a guarantee that you are "in". I would put it in the same category as a "qualified" letter.

Based on historical numbers, about 75% of qualified candidates receive offers of admission from USNA. That's not certainty, but a lot better than the overall 10% acceptance rate.

I got a CVW invite!!!! Does anyone know the weekends? It didn't say in the letter...

Congrats scitsailor! Your letter should have stated times available. The remaining weeks are: Jan 28 & 29, Feb 4 & 5, Feb 25 & 26 and March 4 & 5.

I'm going in January. It's a tough time of year to go, but if you can, you might want to think about going then so that you have more time for decision regarding other schools you've applied to. I couldn't go to the fall weekends because of scheduling conflicts.

yeah, they left the weekends out... i actually got an email from my BGO w/ different weekends...

My letter has different dates then the ones listed here. Mine has Jan 21-22, Feb 4-5, Mar 4-5 and April 1-2. Also on my letter it calls the "Candidate Weekend Visits" I'm thinking that its that same as the Candidate Visitation Weekend?????

I'm working on a DQ waiver and I think that I'll be cleared. I was wondering if there's a chance I could still be sent a CVW invite once I get things straightened out. Does anyone know if they only send out a certain number of letters?

flynavy05, you're exactly right. Sorry about the Jan. dates. lol, that's the one date you'd think I would have right considering that's when I'll be there.

bria, talk to your BGO. He/she should be able to help and tell you whether or not CVW is an option. I don't know if they only send out a certain number of letters, but I have heard that there are 2 different mailings. I'm not positive of this, though.

Is anyone else going Jan. 21 & 22?

i think i might be going that weekend navgirl, however, the only thing that ended up in my packet was brochures about the town and a letter from a hotel! there was nothing from the actual school itself, i had to email the regional director to get the dates, and to find out if i was indeed invited! (i was :) )

My RD said that CVW''s were getting cut back. Remember, if you don't get one, that does not necessarily mean that you're out of the running!

Doug

scitsailor, keep me posted as to whether or not you'll be going the same weekend as me.

Yeah i'm still at school until Thursday, so I'm going to wait until i go home to talk to my mother about a good weekend.... annapolis would pick the four most inconvenient weekends EVER to have CVW's lol

Hey Scit! Have you decided to go this month? I'm definitely taking my long-johns. :) BRRRRRRRRRR!

I'm actually going in February b/c I have exams that Friday and Saturday in January, and I need time to study etc. Let me know how it goes :)

Will do, Scit! Anyone else going this month?

Did anyone west of the Rockies get an invitation to CVW?

Yes

Daughter was sent an invite back in sept. She got another invite in the
mail last week.

Those of you going to CVW in the new year: enjoy! It is awesome. Mine was very eye-opening and was very effective at reassuring/reconvincing/etc me.
