Any word from the kiddies at CVW? The weather is miserable!

Had a 2 hour delay Fri a.m., I know.

yeah, it's pretty miserable there....Grandpa had hoped to do the walking tour...but it was too nasty for that. All his plans were derailed by the weather, so he basically played chauffeur...guess I owe him big time!

My son is there alone, so as expected, haven't heard anything since his arrival.

Got a few hushed words out of him as he watched some of the Patriot League Swimming / Diving Champs Thursday before reporting, but not a tidbit since.

Being from Florida, he was excited to tell me that it was 23 degrees when he got off the plane!

We all were there. Got home at about 1:30 this afternoon. It's really nice to be only a 2-1/2 hour drive from Annapolis! The weather on Friday was not lovely but certainly not as bad as anticipated. My husband and I walked to a restaurant for breakfast at about 9:00... not very icy at all... people had been very good about clearing their sidewalks. The Academy was on a 2 hour delay, but the CVW panels went off as scheduled in the morning. I skipped them but joined the group for the tour at 11:00. It was a little drizzly but not bad. Just had to watch for icy patches. Was worth it to be able to see the inside of the chapel... missed that on previous visits because it was always Saturday and the chapel was closed to visitors because of weddings.

The activities on Thursday evening were kind of long... couple hours of intros/panels + another couple hours of tours of the science and math labs. They provided us with hors d'ouvres at the beginning of the thing, but didn't tell us that they were dinner, so we were all starving by the time it was over (about 10:00).

My son had a good time with his mid host. Some of the things that were scheduled for yesterday were cancelled because of the weather (like going out on YP), but that was ok... he said he did that at summer seminar anyway. He was happy to have been able to understand what was going on in the Calc and Chem classes!

The USNA sticker went on the car when we got home!

The visit was great! I would tell future candidates to have things to do- my mid had a couple free periods on Friday. On Saturday I got to witness SHAPE training- that was uh...interesting to say the least. It was a great opportunity to meet a lot of Mids- and the guys there were amazing- really respectable and friendly. Being from Phoenix I thought that the weather was awesome! Freezing rain was a phenomenon I had never before witnessed and I thought it was pretty cool. I understand I'll probably learn to hate it.

All in all a great visit- for future visitors- don't be phased by the mids that tell you to run while you still can, because some certainly will. The majority of them would do it all again.

thanks for the insight...i'm goin up in March and it's nice to hear about threse other CVWs bfore i go...

I've been hearing about CVW but I have no idea about them. Do you just show up when there is one? and when are they? I got an appointment, but I haven't heard anything about being invited to a CVW.

2k12-
no, you can't just show up. you need to have an invitation. please contact your blue & gold officer right away to try to attend. there may only be one or two more weekends left.

Restrains laughter

Just wait until you're out in it so long that a layer of ice forms on your clothes.

Though I didn't get invited to CVW, I probably would have declined. For one, I know that USNA is my number one choice no matter what, and two, we can't afford it.

Why would one not get invited to CVW? Do they just select certain people at random? I don't understand.

I think they tend to give it to people who couldn't attend NASS or as a recruiting tool. I doubt it has much to do with whether they like your application or not.

Hm. I didn't go to NASS. Oh well. I probably couldn't afford it either, anyway. I already sent back my Acceptance of my Appointment anyway, so I guess it doesn't make much of a difference.

USNA2k12, my son went to CVW in lieu of an NCAA visit for same sport as you. He asked to be invited as he had never been there. Although it was very nice, he decided to accept USMA and decline the USNA appointment.

I'm sorry to hear that he chose USMA over USNA. But that was his decision. Hopefully it's the right one for him. Good thing I'm a girl or else he would be my competition. :o)
