So my son is soooo very happy, he made CW. He was wondering who does the interviews. Is it alumni, faculty, students? Also what is the dress code?

A panel consisting 1 faculty member, 1 student, and either 1 alumnus or 1 staff member. :)

Dress comfortably (“you”) and for the cold. ;)

Congrats, momengineering and son! DH handled the CW trip (I had to work)… so I don’t remember a thing about dress code. I only remember the glow of DH & DS when they returned.

The instructions says to dress casually. So does that mean jeans are okay for the kids for Friday and Saturday? Do the boys typically wear polos or tees? There are different grades of casual.

BTW, we will be thinking warm thoughts to you in Needham this Saturday! Definitely one big advantage of being on a small campus.

I think Nerd Casual would be appropriate ;)

Punk casual is probably not a good idea. And Preppy causal is too stuffy.

If you can wear it to your regular High School class, it is probably ok. With the team projects, I would expect them to get “hands on”, so something they can work in, get on the floor, etc.

Almost everyone wears jeans and t-shirts with hoodies or l/s shirts layered on top. Candidates will also be given a t-shirt many start wearing them at some point, though I recall DS waited until he got back home to wear it to school the next day! You’ll see a smattering of khakis and polos, but it’s not the norm–nerd casual is apt!

Hi - my D is going the first weekend. Yay! I just googled Olin Candidates weekend 2012 and after a brief search found an Olin Flickr account with photos from last year’s weekend(s)

Looks like a variety of dress. I’d imagine bringing something nicer just in case the need came up.

Here is the link for the Olin academic year last year… pics from all three weekends

Thanks for posting the Olin blog. It brought tears to my eyes and wonderful memories to my heart. Bravo.

Hi Mom2kids - I got your message, but it won’t let me reply. If you’re willing, please message me your email so I can contact you with my daughter’s contact info.

Don’t worry about a dress code, CW is a time to meet future classmates and figure out if Olin is a fit…and enjoy the weekend. It is over in a blink of an eye!

Nice pics! I’m glad to see them so son can feel comfortable wearing jeans!
