Applied for Financial Aid? yas
Projected Concentration: Biology
State/Country: NY
School Type: Public. Very good considering that 65% is on free lunch but by no means prestigious
Ethnicity: Hispanic (white)

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Hispanic, first generation, study abroad for 10 months (which is why I’m taking 11th grade classes), lesbian active in lgbtqia community, fluent Spanish and Chinese, can also speak Taiwanese

[ b]Reflection**
Strengths: My essay, research

Weaknesses: test scores, ECs (none of them were very intense tbh) i dont do many hours aside from research
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think that my profile was unique enough that they looked past my shortcomings

Where else you are applying or have already applied:

SUNY Stony Brook: Accepted
SUNY Geneseo: Accepted
SUNY Binghamton: Accepted

Waiting for decisions from: Barnard, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Middlebury

(The only school I would definitely choose over Case is Barnard, the rest would take some deliberation)

Waiting on but don’t plan on attending: Fordham, Skidmore, Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall, Allegheny

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:

I am so happy!! I came into this process kind of blindly and I had no idea where I stood in terms of my desirability as a prospective student. Most of my (very intelligent) friends are going the community college in our small city or to pretty eh colleges (schools with an avg SAT of 1500-1650). It’s not BAd and my test scores are less than stellar but I had big dreams and to be accepted into the best SUNYs was like an “ok, maybe I can do this” kind of moment but then ALSO the be accepted into Case? Where my ACT score puts me below the 25th percentile and ALSO get $26,000 in merit scholarship? I’m over the roof amazed.

tldr: test scores aren’t everything, study for those exams but also make sure you find meaningful things to do during high school, they don’t have to be prestigious but you have to show dedication and involvement because at the end of the day, schools are looking at a person not numbers.

[
]School Type: Private
[]Ethnicity: B
[
]Gender: M
[]Income Bracket: NA
[
]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

[/ul]Reflection:[list]
[]Strengths: Def SAT scores, transcripts and ECs
[
]Weaknesses: My mid terms were really bad and they were sent (2Cs) and my ECs were not that unique compared to some other applicants.
[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Showed interest, good SAT
[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Some ivies and random colleges. Already got into Tulane (32k/y merit) UCSD

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I applied to PPSP with the hope of getting an interview. I did not get one. 1700 people applied and only 70 people got one, so that’s understandable. What I didn’t expect was getting a 31k/year university scholarship from Case after that rejection! Just keep your hopes up, and demonstrate interest! Also Case is NOT a good backup for anyone with high stats, as they do yield protection and waitlist high stat students.

Projected Concentration: Neuroscience
State/Country: NE Ohio
School Type: medium public
Ethnicity: Indian
Gender: Female
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): lgbt? idr if they even asked about that

Reflection
Strengths: Test scores, “difficult” classes.
Weaknesses: Many, but from the pov of Case, maybe my senior year grades, they slipped to all Bs (but I know people who got in who have done worse, so maybe not that.) very unimpressive ECs
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: test scores and hardish classes
Where else you are applying or have already applied: scary ones that I have no right applying to and will likely get rejected from. Rejected from MIT, accepted into OSU honors w/ maximus (rejected from eminence)
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: none, really. I think if you work hard at school and use your extra time on something, you have a really good chance.

Counselor Rec: 7/10? Wasn’t able to see the rec.

Other

Projected Concentration: Applied undecided Engineering and will be taking part in pre-med studies.
State/Country: Michigan
School Type: Private Prep
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: F
Income Bracket: upper middle
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): asian…? (not at all lol)

Reflection
Strengths: ECs, test scores, and high school is a well-known private school.
Weaknesses: CA essay may have been a little iffy. GPA isn’t the best compared to some of my classmates. Made a few mistakes on the application (like reporting 2 ACT scores when it was one. oops.)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I would mainly think because the colleges know about my school. Personally, I think it would be the test scores, but other than that it’s up to your interpretation.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted to University of Michigan, Washington University in St. Louis, and Purdue Engineering. Awaiting decisions from Carnegie Mellon, University of Rochester, Cornell, Duke, Rice, and Northwestern. Fingers crossed!!!
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Not much really. But, I think just be more confident in your abilities. Because, quite frankly, I didn’t expect getting the scholarship. So… be optimistic!

**Decision: Accepted ** w/ University merit, looks like they told us first :)>-

Applied for Financial Aid? YYY
Projected Concentration: told them Sociology, leaning toward Political Science now…
State/Country: OR
School Type: Public (best in area I think)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: F
Income Bracket: < $20,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): …low income?? lgbt girl??

Reflection
Strengths: Test scores, course load, recs?
Weaknesses: UW GPA & ECS! compared to many here I’ve done very little outside school
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: They gotta pad their liberal arts acceptances somehow ? My scores definitely boosted me into the “to look at” pile, not sure how I got past a thorough inspection. Even though my ECs were weak, my essay showed how passionate I can be about my interests, and I think the overall theme of my app supported a strong interest in sociology and east asian studies.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted at Lewis & Clark, deferred EA Northeastern, waiting on Boston U, Wellesley (lol), Smith
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: For people applying, do your research!! I’d been researching potential matches since junior year and I’m really feeling the benefits now that I know that all of my schools are what I’m looking for, and apparently match me mutually :^)) I’m hyped about getting into Case, such a good vibe, really looking forward to visiting if I get the chance. Congrats to everyone here and good luck to everyone else!!
