CWRU tuition by entry year?

I’m looking at this web page: https://case.edu/studentaccounts/tuition-fees/undergraduate-tuition-fees-0 and it lists tuition based on the year that the student entered. Does this mean that CWRU continuing students pay tuition based on their entry year, and are protected from tuition increases for the duration of their degree? I don’t see a statement to that effect on the CWRU web site, just these tuition tables.

Unless the policy has changed very recently…they did increase tuition for returning students this year.

The tuition for returning undergraduate students to attend Case Western Reserve University in the 2022-2023 academic school year will increase by 5% from last year’s figure, an amount totaling to $56,720. This marks the greatest percent increase in tuition that CWRU has mandated in the last few years.

Looking more closely at these tables, I am even more confused. I’m putting the semester tuition (rather than whole year tuition) for easier copy paste from the web page:

2022-2023 school year:
First year students: $30,520 per semester
Second year students and up: $28,360 per semester

2023-2024 school year:
First and second year students: $32,050 per semester
Third year students and up: $29,780 per semester

So, continuing students definitely aren’t protected from tuition increases, but it looks like CWRU is trying to shield them somewhat from the very large increases they have had recently?

I would love to find a statement of policy somewhere. We are considering CWRU but concerned about tuition increases we would face over the course of a four year degree (or possibly longer, allowing for co-op etc.).

I’m so glad you asked this, we are in the same boat with similar concerns. Case is a serious contender for my D23 in terms of programs, but the way tuition has been leaping up year by year, is worrisome in terms of planning overall budget.

If either of us find out anything, please report back here. :+1:

Looking at these numbers, it appears that tuition for first-time freshmen jumped 13% for Fall 2022, but the tuition increase for continuing students was capped at 5%?

So I’m guessing that for those of us considering CWRU, we should expect and budget for 5% yearly increases (in tuition alone, not counting other fees and room and board etc)?

I think the numbers below are correct – someone please correct me if I got it wrong.

Tuition 21-22 Tuition 22-23 Tuition 23-24
Enter 2021 $54,020 $56,720 (5% increase) $59,560 (5% increase)
Enter 2022 $61,040 $64,100 (5% increase)
Enter 2023 $64,100

My son goes to Case. A new president came in and raised tuition a significant amount to be in line with what he considers peer institutions. The big jump affected students who entered Fall 2022. So my son who entered Fall 2021 is not paying that “new rate”. So I would expect tuition to only be raised the normal percent most colleges raise- not another big jump.

When DS applied last year, total cost had been listed at $74k, but then when he was admitted it was $82k. We expected a bump but not a bump that large. It was concerning. Seems like this year it went up, again. Even with research, it’s so hard to know the exact amount you’ll be paying.

In a financial aid session for accepted students last spring, we were told to expect increases of around 4-5% each year. I can’t remember the exact percentage that they quoted, but it was definitely around 4%.

Thanks! The increases for continuing students in both of the last two years have been exactly 5% (which is indeed within the quoted range of 4-5%).

So maybe we should expect something like the following table for tuition (with italics showing 5% increases)?

21-22 22-23 23-24 24-25 25-26 26-27
Enter 2021 $54,020 $56,720 $59,560 $62,538
Enter 2022 $61,040 $64,100 $67,305 $70,670
Enter 2023 $64,100 $67,305 $70,670 $74,204
