CWRU vs. Uni. Rochester for ME

I'm trying to decide between Case and the University of Rochester for mechanical engineering. Unfortunately, they both appear to be quite good.

One problem I see is that Rochester's mechanical engineering department is quite small: 20ish students per year. Case's, on the other hand, is much larger. This also suggests that they have significantly nicer facilities. Then again, the NSF says Rochester spends about twice as much on engineering research than Case. That's for engineering in general, though, so a lot of that may be for biomedical. Research opportunities are also fairly important to me, as is demand by good companies for people who've graduated.

Thoughts? Experiences? Also, it'd help me if you could state your affiliation/position when you post (e.g., Case student, Rochester alumni, tech company HR). Thank you for your help!

case has a better ME program

Tyrdium: We visited both schools about two years ago. Our S decided to apply to one based on an overall impression. Both schools are excellent choices for any type of engineering, though one may be a little better than the other in certain fields.

You, too, need to visit the schools if at all possible in order to make a sensible choice, as well as visit the city in which each is located if you have not been there. Talk to students, feel the atmosphere, possibly sit in on a class, possibly talk to professors, ask questions, see if you and your parents can tell which school might be better, and for what reasons.

Dadofsam has excellent advice! I completely agree. Find what is the best fit for you.
