<p>My D has received many emails, letters, requests to fill out questionnaires, etc, and she has made a couple unofficial visits. She already rec'd one email listing OV dates and asking her to let them know which dates work for her (but she has sort of put off a direct answer as its not one of top picks and will depend on how many other invites she gets and from whom).
What exactly happens when coaches call on July 1? What is a typical conversation? Are they mostly saying hello, we are interested in you and would like to invite you to vist? Or do they start asking the recruit questions...why do you want to go here, what do you like about us, etc. Will they expect a firm committment to a OV date right then?
This year July 1 is a Sunday...so will they really start calling that day? If for some reason she isn't home, is it better for us to not answer? If we answer or they leave a message, does that count as their call for the week?

<p>July 1 isn’t always a phone frenzy. Some coaches may call Sunday, other may not check in for a few days or weeks. Don’t read too much into what happens on July1. As for the content of the conversation - it’ll probably be very friendly and general ('how’s your summer been going?, etc) They’ll probably talk about how excited they are about the program and may ask you to save one of your officials for them.</p>
<p>It’s not going to be a “I need a firm OV commitment today” type of thing.</p>
<p>We found that the coaches who have been speaking with club coaches begin the letters and emails in July. There seemed to be a few whom she had never had any contact who emailed (probably had a time screen) and asked her to fill out a questionnaire and also indicate interest. However, in reality most of it was handled on a coach to coach basis, at least at the outset (and then when it came down to commitment time, the coaches spoke again to confirm interest on both sides and for a last minute check…)<br>
You should be proactive with club coaches or even the college coaches-- July 1 means they can now call you back. Also at summer sectionals/nats you and they can have a conversation longer than “nice swim”.</p>
