My daughter is considering 4 colleges for a dual degree in psychology and music performance. 3 of the colleges offered her very good merit scholarships, from around $15K (Il. Wesleyan and Lawrence U.) to full tuition (Case Western Reserve). The fourth college, St. Olaf, offered her a small token scholarship only. She keeps coming back to St. Olaf as she felt it was a "happy" place and liked their orchestra program. However, knowing that the school is "top heavy" (i.e., juniors and seniors) for her particular instrument for the next two years, I feel like her music options are very limited there, at least frosh and soph year, and that she could get the same or better music education at Lawrence U. if she wanted it (plus the merit scholarship). At the time we were on campus at Lawrence she seemed to like it, but her desires are changing - rather be near a large city, want a bigger college. CWRU fits a lot of her criteria for this as it is a larger school, in Cleveland and by Severance Hall (Cleveland Orchestra), lots of research opportunities in psychology with professors or with the hospitals on campus or nearby, etc. However, she is unsure of the music program there - mainly the quality of the music program. We want her to chose a college that will be a good fit for her, but scholarship money should play some part in the decision. Any thoughts on these schools for her intended majors?
