I received a letter (via UPS) from Dean Santirocco, inviting me to attend a gathering at NYU April 1-3. I was wondering if anyone else received this.

According to the letter, I will get a chance to meet a few professors and learn more about the school. Also, they are willing to provide dining, accommodations, and transportation for the weekend.

Apparently, students who attend the weekend are eligible to receive a $25000 renewable scholarship over four years and participate in the Freshman Honors Seminar Program....

sure, but my stats aren't nearly as good as those I've seen in the "Sunday at the Square" thread:

1460/800/800/800 (Writing/Math IIC/BIO M)
4.0 Unweighted
Biochemistry Major
I'm from OREGON.. =)

EC: Varsity swimming and tennis, college classes, research at OHSU (published research), random clubs

essay: I'm not sure because I didn't have people read it. I talked about how my dreams and aspirations are shaped by the world I live in...family, friends, etc...

I did not get an invitation specifically inviting me to attend the Sunday at the Square, but it is mentioned in my letter:

"The weekend culminates with a special opportunity to hear John Sexton, President of New York University, speak at the Sunday at the Square Open House program on Sunday morning."

I got a call this morning from the Sr. Assistant Director of Admissions to get my flight arranged for the weekend. I'm very excited!

What are you talking about, portlander? Your stats are great! The only one that may be a little below the Sunday at the Square kids is the SAT I, but your perfect SAT IIs make up for that. Add to that two varsity sports and published research (the latter corresponds to your major, that's always a plus), and you're pretty impressive.

1440/740/730/700
3.8, 2nd in class
English Major
New Jersey

Other fun stuff: Published sexual health activist. Worked for MTV. Appeared on NBC special (the 411: Teens & Sex) and in magazines and on some radio shows.

Essays: One about activism, one about being a writer.
Also in at Harvard (EA), Yale and Penn (Both early notification).

Looking forward to meeting ya, Portlander! I'm going to be late (going to Fr. for spring break), but I should be getting there on Sat. night when you guys are at dinner (I hope!)

As for Harvard and Yale (And NYU): Nothing's definite. I am in love with every school I applied to, and am pretty sure I know where I'll be happiest, but am not going to make a formal decision until April 1. I think I'll leave it at that for now. ;-)

I agree with you Saxfreq. I received likely letters from both Dartmouth and Yale, and was recently admitted to MIT. However, I know NYU is an awesome school, and I too am in love with all the schools I applied to...(maybe with the exception to my "safety")

NYU in 11 days! I'm so excited! I can't wait to meet you Saxfreq and everyone else planning to attend Sunday at the Square!
