<p>Well I recently got accepted into SDSU and i'm not sure whether my having a D in AP Calculus for my first semester grade will affect their decision when I send in my transcripts, I haven't struggled with any other class during High School except for this one. I have taken five years of Math and am hoping to better my second semester grade, I currently have C and am trying to keep it at a C or better for my second semester. I know that class is hard and it isn't an excuse but does anyone know if this will greatly affect their decision, or if they will revoke my acceptance? If anyone can help thank you!</p>

<p>A surprising number of people react to this advice with “Why should I call their attention to it?” as if they won’t notice when they get your transcripts after you finish HS. Friends, people in admission are paid to check and evaluate transcripts. They will notice. So you might as well find out what they’re going to do now rather than in the summer. Many colleges require you to notify them immediately if you change your class schedule or fail a class first semester (check the docs you received after you submitted your apps). </p>
<p>In your favor, contacting them nowshows maturity since you’re stepping up instead of just hoping things blow over. Furthermore right now you have more options to make up the work (perhaps a summer class, etc) if that’s what they want; those will be gone if they check your final transcript after you graduate, receiving it sometime in July or August.</p>
<p>I expect they’ll want an explanation. Here’s what an effective explanation says, whether its this matter or anything else. (1) I messed up. (2) I’m sorry it happened (3) Here’s what I learned, why it won’t happen again. You don’t blame the teacher, the distraction of your ECs, what have you. Legitimate excuses would be something like a serious illness or a death of a close relative, but it doesn’t sound like that’s the case here (or it would affect all classes, not just this one).</p>
<p>If you can get a C in the class 2nd semester you might be off the hook; the UC and CSU schools have this bizzarre concept of “validation” in which they say “A grade of C or better in the 2nd semester of a year-long course will validate a “D” in the 1st semester.” And by “validate” they mean override. But don’t take my word for it; find it on the SDSU site or by talking with the adcoms there.</p>

<p>@mikemac Thank you man I had my counseler call them for me, they didn’t tell her much except it “may” affect my acceptance, since i’ve already been accepted, as for making it up SDSU does not allow that and I currently have a C in the class and am hoping that the validation helps me out, I have already emailed admissions office and they replied they would put my email with my acceptance to refer too if they ever had too, I told them I messed up and I know that’s not an excuse but I also told them I have learned and I was on track to try and better that grade.
