D first semester senior year AP Statistics

So i just finished first semester of my senior year and i just received a D in AP stats. However, my teacher says that if students can get a C or better the second semester, then the first semester grade can change from a D to a C.

But my parents want me to drop the course altogether thinking I will end up with another D and ruin my chances with colleges but I don’t want to because I will get a W on my transcript. I feel like I can do better in the course as I just need to work on time management and ask for a little more help from the teacher. In addition, I found out I was accepted into a college (CSU) and so now I’m even more worried as I am confused whether I should continue on and hopefully have my grade changed to a C or just have a W on my transcript.

In either case what are the pros and cons. Also should I notify colleges and (the college that i just got accepted into) if I do end of with a W? I also think that I do not need to send a mid year report for UC’s and CSUs.

Thank you!

Some CSU’s will require a 7th semester transcript (Mid-year report) after you enroll. SDSU and CSU Fullerton are 2 CSU’s that will ask for these. UC’s normally do not ask for a Mid-year report but several UC’s will send out emails to applicants for an augmented review and Mid-year reports may be required. Usually augmented reviews are for borderline applicants, applicants that discussed something unique in their essay or a disability.

The UC’s do require that if you get any grades below a C, Senior year, that you email admissions. If the teacher will not change the grade until the end of the 2nd semester, this could be a potential problem.

Freshmen: If you change schools, add or drop a course, or fail to earn a C or better in a course after you submit your application, you must notify the UC Application Center by email or postal mail. Your correspondence must include your name, UC Application ID number and your signature (if you mail a letter), and will be available to all the campuses to which you applied.

Is it bad to have a W on my transcript? Also would I get rescinded because I dropped a class? Thank you.

A withdrawal is not great but better than a D or F. No you will not be rescinded for dropping a class unless the course is needed to meet the a-g course requirements for the UC’s and CSU’s. A good friend of my older son, dropped AP Calc due to low grades his Senior year and was admitted to his first choice school.

ok thanks that was helpful.
