any advice ,help, insight you can offer? D is a small town girl who is on the quiet side as I've indicated before. She's inexperienced, though she is game for the interview and set it up herself. Thanks in advance.

The admissions staff are friendly people. To be honest, I hardly remember any of my interviews because I was always so nervous, which was totally unnecessary!

My only real advice is general, not specific to Scripps, and it's just to spend some time mentally preparing for 'typical' questions: what are your strengths, what are your weaknesses, what are you passionate about, what three words would your friends use to describe you, what color would you be if you were a crayon, why does Scripps appeal to you, etc. She might not get asked these specific questions, but just thinking about them, spending some time in self-analysis, will help her minimize deer-in-headlights moments during the actual interview. I never had trouble responding to the questions, but I did have trouble thinking on my feet, so this was helpful. She can dig through Google and mock it up with you, or just think about this type of stuff as she falls asleep at night in the few days before the interview. Doesn't need to be a big deal...just enough to get her thinking.

Best of luck to your daughter (or both of them, if each is interviewing)!

-- Inexperienced, quiet, small town girl who went through this in '02 ;)

Thanks so much! Just one of my girls decided she was going to do the on-campus interview at this time. Thanks for remembering :). I'll encourage her to read your post. Actually I was going to encourage her to read all of your posts in the Scripps forum because they are so informative. Thanks a million.

Just wanted to report back that the interview went well. She did get the "what are three adjectives your friends would use....?" question as well as the "what is you passion?" question. They came out of the interview chatting companionably and my D felt very good about it. Thanks Student 615 for you help and insight.

I'm too late, but glad it went well. I was going to say my D's alumni interviewer implied an on campuss interviewer expected more; told her she should prepare to be better informed about the joint science program ( D said she didn't know about it...sigh...) as she wanted to be a Bio major...

The adjectives question had me frozen on the spot. A very, very clear (and awkward...) memory! Glad to hear that things went well :)

Shrinkwrap I don't know if my D got that question but fortunately she did know about the joint sciences program...how much she knows I don't know. My other D will likely be going for an alumni interview sometime this fall. She just didn't feel ready for one last week.

Student615: Seriously she wouldn't have known to be ready for that one without your input so thanks!
