So far I am doing well in my classes for senior year except for AP Physics. This is my first AP science class and I am worried how my D in AP Physics will affect my college admission decisions. I also fear that there is a chance that I may have my admissions revoked if I do get accepted into the schools I applied for. I am currently thinking of switching to regular physics because I know I will do much better in that class than in AP Physics. Should I stick with AP Physics and do my best to improve my grade for the first semester and then drop it second semester or should I drop sometime before the first semester ends because the deadline for my school to switch from a high to a lower level class is December 6. I'm not sure if this helps, but the main reason I am not doing so well in AP Physics are the tests. I study a lot days before I take my AP Physics tests but can't seem to get at least a C in them. Everything else I do in the class is fine. It's the tests that are killing my grade. The thing is I know the concepts well and do well on practice problems and yet still can't seem to do well on exams, mainly due to the fact that my teacher puts in a lot of tricky questions and is a tough grader. Anyways i appreciate any feedback you give me. As of right now, I'm confused on what to do.

I had this same exact problem, but I stuck with the class for the entire year. My parents actually forced me into the class, but they were okay with letting me drop it after I got a C for the semester. I just figured that if I had stayed in it for a semester, then I should probably just finish off the other semester as well since I already came this far. One thing that was different in my case though is that I took it as a junior and I’m not going into a field related to Physics. Also, for senior year, I took AP Bio, and I had an A- for first quarter, so I significantly improved my grade, so it made it look like I worked harder…Sorry I was rambling. Anyway, I would say wait two more weeks, and kind of go over pros and cons. Even if you took the AP test, the score wouldn’t come until after you graduated. Also, I have heard many people say that it is much better to stick with a normal course and get an A or B rather than pushing yourself in an AP class and getting a C or D. AP classes will look good if you have an A or B. It’s all up to you in the end.

It is much better to drop down than to get a D. If you are really in danger, then switch.

I would advise you to switch for the other Physics class. Taking Physics shows rigor and getting a B in regular physics or honors physics is much better than getting a D (which would disqualify you from a lot of schools).

thanks for the tips

I went to my teacher, got a chance to take a quiz again that I had missed for 1st Q and got an A-, my teacher was cool enough to bring my grade up to a B for the quarter and my guidance is going to send in the updated transcript this week. Thank ya J.

I would absolutely drop down if you are still able. My advice would be different if you had a B- or even a C. But a D changes the tune. Good luck.
