I'm getting an A in all my other classes (2 of which are AP)
but on AP Physics.. I think I'm really heading towards a D...
I try my best and when I study before a test, I feel ready
and that I know everything, but when I take the actual test,
the questions are like nothing I've seen on the practice problems,
the questions always include one small factor or situation that totally throws me off
and leaves me confused on what equations to use, etc.

I know one B in your senior year doesn't really matter,
but would one D (and all As) be harmful..?

You need to try your absolute hardest to maintain at least a C. The difference between a C and D is enormous in whether or not your admission may be rescinded.

^Where are you getting your information from? My bf’s brother (in-state) got threatened to get his UNC admission rescinded for two C’s after an A/B record throughout high school. OP, if you’ve applied to top schools, this is a major consideration. Keep your grade a C if at all possible.

And are you already in second semester? If not, that D will be sent with your midyear reports, which are considered for admission. This will hurt your chances more than a bad grade post-acceptance (though of course you should maintain good grades until graduation).

@cgarcia:
Please, tell me where you got this “information.” If there is a top school who wouldn’t be concerned over a D, I would to see this school!

Well, I’m a special status so this semester will be my last (graduating in January),
and the D will be part of my mid-year report, which will for me actually be my final school report…
Sigh… I’ve got only one more test and the final exam to raise it to a C…
Do any of you have have advice on studying for a physics test?
My problems is, I seem to do well on the exercise problems and mild critical thinking problems, but the teacher always puts mostly hard critical thinking ones on the test …
and yes… I’ve applied to mostly top schools…(with some sateties too though)

I have seen a D be seriously harmful to acceptances. For instance, I know an honor student who had many AP classes and very high grades but got a D senior year in AP class and did not get accepted to any UC. Had to go out of state to so-so school.

What does the teacher say about this? How many times have you been to see him/her? Why didn’t you drop the class before this?

Can you get a private tutor? Agree also about wondering whether you have been to see the teacher. I also know of someone whose college admits were affected by a D senior year, sorry to tell you.

I think the best grade i can get here at this point (the final course grade) would be a C+…if not then maybe a C… is that forgiveable? I’m trying to get a tutor right now. I can’t believe I was so obsessed with money as to not find a tutor. I thought if I just worked hard enough, I could make it.

I would work as hard as absolutely possible to raise it to a C+, and then expand your list to include more match schools. Honestly, Stanford, Georgetown, Pomona, and NYU (I’m not sure about Berkley’s competitiveness in-state) won’t be very forgiving of a D, or even a C (even a C+). Add some choices now so you have a wide variety of schools to choose from come April 1.
