D in Calculus Class over the summer

Hi I was wondering if I still have a chance of getting into the UC’s with D in a class. I’m retaking Calculus AB in high school right now but got a D over the summer in a college course.

I had straight A’s all of sophomore year and junior year

To replace the D on your transcript, you need to retake the “exact” same class. Is your Calculus class the same college course? If not, then your D will be included in your UC GPA which will impact your chances.

It sounds like you are a current high school senior. Since the UC schools do not ask for midyear grades from frosh applicants they will not see any of your grades senior year. They can see you are taking the class over, but they have no way to predict what grade you are going to get in it. So the summer class is going to be part of your UC GPA.

How would it like impact me, is it an automatic denial?

It is not an automatic denial. But for details, communicate directly with admissions at the UC you are interested in, and discuss the situation with your own guidance counselor.
