D in CSUF Calculus class? Admission revoked?

I just found out that my 2nd semester grade in a CSUF (Cal State Fullerton) Calculus class is a D. Will I get my admission revoked from UCSD? My 1st semester grade was a B+. This is the only D I've received in all my high school career. I'm really worried that I will have my admission revoked (sort of panicking now). Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

^^ I am not the authority on this but I think you may be okay for the following reasons, but you should still talk to the UCSD admissions office —

If this is a CSUF course the D should show up only on your CSUF transcript grade not on your high school report. From what I undertstand UCSD does not like D in your High school transcripts, but it may be okay ( you should verify this)to have a D on your CSUF transcript. It all depends on how you decided to have your grades reported.

If the D is in a CSUF course ( I assume it is MATH 150B) you will not get any UCSD credit for this but they may still decide to admit you – so you will probably have to sign up for Calculus 20B at UCSD.

Based on your post I have a good idea which high school you are from – Good luck.
If everything works out you will get credit for MAth 20A which is the same CSUF Math 150A.

Thank you bluecoat! The grade is not on my high school transcript, and I requested a separate CSUF transcript to be mailed to UCSD. I will call the admissions office tmrw and tell them about my grade. And yes, it’s Math 150B.

When you talk to the admissions office tell them clearly that you got a D in a college course that you took. Good luck. I hope I am right and things work out for you.

Thanks for the advice, and I hope you are right too

My last post for the day – When you call the admissions office the operator typically screens the call and tries to answer the questions, as vaguely as possible to get rid of you. Be patient and insist that you want to talk to an undergraduate admissions officer.

I called them today, and the lady said that they would have to look at my transcripts, but I might get rescinded even if it is a college class (she asked an assistant who works for the people who look at transcripts, and the assistant said that they just recently revoked three students’ admissions for bad grades). I emailed them today also and am waiting for a reply. If they really do rescind me in the end, I can only think of going straight to UCSD to explain. Does anyone have any other ideas that can help me?

xxpanda - I left you a private message on your visitor board with my response. Let me know if you got it.

Did you report the class as one you planned to take when you applied in November? Is it to fulfill your A-G requirements? If so then your admission will be based on you passing that class. How were the rest of your grades? If not then they may overlook the grade. How are the rest of your grades for the senior year? They average them and you should have a 3.0 minimum-higher is better. By all means go and make an appointment to see a decision making person. You’ll at least get the word right from the Triton’s mouth.

@3down: Yes, I reported both semesters of the CSUF class on my UC application. My a-g requirements have already been filled because I have taken three years of math (9-11 grade) as required by the UC’s. The rest of my grades are mostly B’s and one C in AP Chemistry second semester. And I don’t think a D is a passing grade, so I don’t think I passed the CSUF class second semester(?). But, even with the D, my weighted GPA is still above 3.0, thankfully. Do I make an appointment by calling or e-mailing the admissions office, or which way is better?

@3down: Sorry for sounding confused on whether I passed the CSUF class (of course I didn’t pass it), I misunderstood the part where you said “your admission will be based on you passing that class”.

The lady I talked to said that the people who look at transcripts have revoked some students’ admissions based on bad grades they earned in classes that are not required, so I’m kinda worried.

sent you a private message

I am kinda in the same situation. I took an AP science class just for the AP credit, but I ended up getting a D second semester… I got a C first semester. I called UCSD for the past month, but they give me a different answer each time. Is there anything I can do?

Did you pass the AP test or take and SAT II that was high enough for them to consider?
