This is my first year of high school & I didn’t do that great. I took French, Dance, Geometry, English, Biology, and AVID. F We have to take 2 years of p.e to graduate and I took dance to cover p.e. First semester I passed my class with a D+ and this semester I now have an A. My other grades were B’s and C’s and my GPA is 2.8. Will this affect my chances to get into a “top college” like UCLA,STANFORD, BERKELEY ETC. ?
For UCLA and UCB, those would not hurt you because they do not look at Freshman year grades. However, you can not really get a 2.8 for the rest of high school to get in those schools. Pretty much you need all As and like 1 or 2 Bs.
UC’s do look at Freshman grades, they are just not used in the UC GPA calculation. PE is not an academic class so it should not make a difference in your competitiveness, but getting B’s and C 's in your a-g academic courses will negatively impact your chances. You need to step it up big time and get A’s for the next 2 years to have any chance at these schools. At the end of Junior, repost with your UC GPA, test scores and EC’s and see how well of a comeback you have made.
Good luck.
