D+ in precalculus- how can I improve?

So I’ve been slipping up a little in math, as the teacher gave an INSANE amount of homework, and the class moves extremely fast. Also, the teacher is very picky on how we do our homework; literally at the beginning of every class she rants about our work habits for 20 minutes, when most people are actually overachievers that do quite well in school.

However, I feel like this class isn’t right for me, as it is the highest track offered at our school and math is by far my weakest subject. It’s one of the hardest classes offered at our school (AP Calc is much easier), and even though I got by with B’s/B-'s and an A (once :D) in other higher-level courses, I feel like I might not be so lucky this time, because this is the first time I had such a bad grade at the start of the school year. Right now I have 4 missing assignments, and a D and an F on the two tests that we took so far, and they were both about concepts covered in Algebra I & II. This concerns me, since I might get even worse grades once we actually move on to the new stuff. It doesn’t help that the teacher hates me and I have trouble completing the homework :frowning:

Should I drop to regular precalc, or just take my chances in the honors class and hope for the best?

Drop to regular Pre-Calculus.

You have two scenarios:

  1. Continue with Pre-Calculus Honors, and you may continue to receive bad grades. The class is too accelerated, and you might not be able to effectively learn and understand some topics. At the end of the grading period, both your UW and W GPA are affected.

or

  1. Drop to regular Pre-Calculus. Be able to learn and understand everything at a better pace and gain the skills necessary to do well in higher level courses. At the end of the grading period, your W GPA will be affected, but (if you do well) not so much the UW.

The second scenario is more favorable in my opinion.

I wish you good luck!

Thank you. However, most people in my class struggle as well; I was wondering what I should do if this is the case. The teacher literally takes points off for trivial things such as not labeling the axis or boxing the answers, which leads to most people getting C’s and D’s on quizzes, which are held (I’m not exaggerating) every class period.
I’ve heard that her geometry classes are also like that as well :frowning:
