D on transcript ? oh dear...

So, I'm an NYU freshman who will probably apply for soph transfer to Cornell. I'm worried about my HS grades. In 8th grade I took 3 9th grade classes which show up on my transcript, and I got a B-, C+, and A-, so 2/3 are bad.

HS stats:
9th Grade: 3.6 UW
10th Grade: 3.03 UW (D in art class)
11th Grade: 3.65 UW
12th Grade: 3.85 UW

Final UW: 3.51, but would be 3.61 without D in Art :(
As you can see, I have sort of an upward trend without 10th grade, because of the D. It really kills my GPA. I'm a Govt major btw.

I took 8 AP classes, some honors classes, 1 yr advanced in math/science (started HS math/science in 8th grade)

AP Scores:
3 – Macro Economics, Italian
4 – Statistics, Psychology
5 – World History, U.S History, English Lit, English Language

Will they even care about the D and 8th grade? 10th grade was such a bad yr for me, and I feel like it's screwing me over years later.

What kind of GPA should I shoot for at NYU to have a chance at Cornell? I'm assuming 3.8-4.0? Does that give me somewhat of a chance? My SAT was like 2130 btw, I think that's around Cornell's avg, or maybe slightly below.

if you were able to get into NYU...high school grades are really irrelevant...

just get that high gpa...as a freshman at NYU and you should be fine...

well...they're only going to see 1st semester plus midterm scores from 2nd when I apply, so they'll look a lot at HS, and I got rejected from cornell cas in HS so...

Sure...they'll look at your HS numbers...but if you can show them how well you did at NYU it will certainly help your application. Just kick butt in class, write some fantastic essays and get great letters of rec....and I think you stand a decent shot.
