D or F?

I am currently an undergad at ccny and I took calculus 3 this semester and did terrible. I received a D, and will have to retake it in the following semesters in order to get credit, as my major requires a C or better.

Would it be better to ask the professor to change it to an F, so I can use the F-Repeat policy in order to replace the F with the grade, hopefully C or better when I retake it? Or would it be better to keep the D and live with it?

I am asking because I am planning on apply to grad school in about two years, and I’m worried about which one will look worse when applying…

I don’t think the professor will change it to an F, particularly if the grade replacement policy is only for the F grades. In the end it probably won’t make much difference because (1) it is still early in your college career and there is time to demonstrate that you can handle the material better and get good grades, and (2) when graduate programs look at your transcript, they will see the F and possibly recalculate your GPA to include it.
