d1 walkons

does ut austin 'allow' walk-ons for men's cross country or track. I know they have to let at least all the guys that try and equal shot to make it on the team. They cannot be prudice and not let certain people in. There are NCAA rules for this, and Title IX and all that stuff.

I would try contacting the athletic department of UT as far as walk-ons. I know many other schools allow it so I'm assuming UT would do it. But to be safe, go ahead and contact them and see.

Title IX says
"No person in the United States shall on the basis of sex, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
that and they have to give everyone shot. Look at the football team they have 90 guys on there.

Yeah they can be prejudice** if they so chose. They could have already met their recruited quote before the first day of school.Title IX has only to do with sex and is only applied to the fact that the number of programs for girls has to equal the number of programs for boys. Were you recruited by any other D1 schools? If not, do your times match up with the X-Country guy's times on UT sports website? If not, then you have no chance.

You do realize that pretty much all 90 of the guys on the team were recruited at some level, and most were top recruits in the nation. The only guys that weren't, for the most part, are the kickers. There are some walk on players, but you have to be an amazing athlete.

Sounds like UT's got some great recruits for track for next year.

It's possible to walk on. I know a girl that walked on the Women's team. I don't see why not if you can run faster, but you will not get a scholarship that year.
What foxshox said pertains to football, which is more arbitrary since it's a skilled sport. For X-Country, it's just pure guts and glory. If you are a good enough runner, you should have some idea of your chances for Texas X-Country.
