D3 basketball chances

I am a sophomore in high school and am looking ahead to playing basketball in college. I currently play for the JV basketball team at my school and will most likely make varsity next year. But the school I go to has some extremely talented basketball players. The five starters all have d1 offers, and if I’m honest I am no where near their talent. I would still love to play basketball in college, possibly D3 but I don’t know if colleges will be able to see me play. Because if they don’t see me starting and putting in serious minutes, how will they know if I’m good or not? I guess I’m just a little confused on the D3 recruiting situation. Any help?

If coaches are there to watch others at your school, you’ll benefit from that. Your program will also have a good reputation. Keep your grades up as you’ll need merit awards for D3 as there are no athletic scholarships.

Do you go to camps in the summer, or play tournaments? A lot of basketball recruiting is not from high school teams but from other play.

I do play aau basketball in the spring and we play on average about 8 or 9 tournaments. I have also done a couple of those “Minnesota showcases” before.

I think you’ll be in good shape. Also ask your coaches to help you identify schools where you’d have a good chance of getting in and getting a scholarship. Don’t rule out D2 schools either.

A lot will happen durring you summer program. Check out ncsa. A lot will depend on your own legwork as d3 schools don’t have large recruiting budgets. You’ll need to be flexible on size and location. Start making a list of schools that interest you and start reaching out to the coaches. Good luck.

Most DIII colleges have recruitment forms on their athletic website on the page of the sport you play. You can start filling out the recruitment forms for the colleges that you are interested in. Usually there is a field where you can provide a links to videos of you playing (many people upload them to Youtube) on the recruitment form. Do a search for “basketball recruitment video” on Youtube and you’ll see the kind of videos that are used for recruitment purposes. Some people hire video companies to compile highlight videos (they often will do that for you at showcase tournaments) or if you or someone you know is good at video editing and production, you can do it yourself.

Good luck!
