D3 high academic basketball decision help needed

Son is in demand as a D3 basketball recruit. Has been told by three NESCACs that he needs to raise his SAT scores (but no definitive # has been provided by any school). Son would be a legacy applicant at one of them. On the other hand, son has been told by a top 30 LAC that he has been green lighted by Admissions to have a slot used for him by the coach. SAT scores will arrive on the 28th. Does anyone know what an acceptable SAT score might be or does it vary from school to school and prospect to prospect? I believe son's counselor will contact coaches to try to identify the target score. Is there anything else that can be done in the meantime? Also, how did your child decide which school to go to in the end?

I know that at Amherst, a couple of years ago, a B band recruit with a slot needed a 650 on each section (sport was a non-helmet, non-basketball)

30 ACT score should do it if an impact player on the hardwood.
