DA Freshman Classes Kelley

I will be a direct admit to Kelley this upcoming fall 2020 and I was looking for recommendations and help for which classes I should take. The only AP credits I will be entering Kelley with are for Calculus (5), Psychology (5), Microeconomics (4), and maybe AP Computer Science A (4 or 5). I am hoping to get a 4.0 freshman year and will work as hard as I need to so I can achieve my goal. I also want to apply for Hutton honors and the business honors program during my freshman year. My ultimate goal is to end up in the investment banking workshop so a high GPA is a very large priority of mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You seem like a really hardworking student so I would take between 14-16 credits a semester. This will keep you busy enough but also give you time to have a social life. I also think taking less than 14 won’t look too good when you apply for IBW. Students who apply to really competitive programs in Kelley take 15 credits on average while maintaining a 3.80-3.95 so you need to be on par with that!

I would take Finite through ivy tech online during your fall or spring semester. DO NOT take it at IU. I cannot stress that enough.

I would take K201 (3 credits), A100 (1 credit; first 8-weeks so it doesn’t overlap with your semester finals), F-255 (3 credits; this is a finance elective, it doesn’t count towards your GPA but it will help you form a connection with the head of the Investment banking workshop who runs this class, and really see if investment banking is for you. I took it and it helped me pick which workshop I wanted to apply to), Compass (1 credit), an A&H (3 credits; I took L-314), and the last couple credits are up to you and your eligibility. Some recommendations include a sophomore class like D270 (1.5 credits) first 8- weeks and D271(1.5 credits) second 8-weeks (you have to be sophomore standing), L201 (3 credits), take a class to explore a minor, or an exploratory Kelley class like Personal Finance.

You came in with some amazing, useful credits and if you take the classes I listed above you will really help yourself sophomore year and I promise, your GPA won’t suck! I know it sounds daunting, but you will do great! Good luck! If you have any questions, do not feel free to reach out.

@eagle2001 You suggest taking the IBW prereq in freshman year?

So there is an official IBW pre-requisite that you have to take in order to apply to both IBW and Capital Markets that is F-355 and you take that fall of your sophomore year. F-255 is not an official pre-requisite but it is a great elective to take to see if IBW or any other finance path is for you. My friends and it really helped us decide what path in finance we wanted to take or if we wanted to even pursue finance. Take this fall of your freshman year. Save spring for your sophomore classes like K-303 and A-201/202. F-255 is also challenging so I would keep it for the fall semester especially since the other classes you have won’t be too bad.
