Herro. With regards to the interview for MIT, will your interviewer necessarily be in your own country, or do they expect you to do the interview using skype or video calling? I'm asking because I'm an international applicant, and a quick search tells me that my interviewer from my MyMIT account is currently at Stanford. Also, I know a friend of mine had a face-to-face interview for MIT last year, so I'm not too sure how it works. Cheers.

Almost everyone who interviews will get a face-to-face interview, but some international applicants who otherwise wouldn’t be able to interview will be assigned a Skype interviewer.

Still, your interviewer’s location isn’t necessarily a clue – sometimes ECs volunteer to interview in their home areas if they will be at home for a period of time during the fall.

And of course there could be an error. In my region there is one EC, who moved into my region over the summer, who still appears on the database to live 7000 miles away. There is another EC who appears in the directory in my region, despite the fact that he moved to New York.

And of course, less commonly, but not impossible, there could be a simple error. I was using Google Maps last night to get directions to a friend’s new house which I knew was about a fifteen minute walk away, I made a slight typo in the street name, and Google found my mistyped street in a city 170 miles away.

Contact the EC, and if he/she is in the wrong region, then it is not difficult to swap ECs. We are used to that. I’ve swapped around 5 so far this year in my region. Good luck.

Just want to post a public thank-you to the MIT interviewers. Just about every report I’ve seen posted on CC seems to have been a positive experience for the interviewee. In addition, my D’s interviewer has been remarkably flexible in working around her super-busy fall schedule.

To any interviewers reading this: thanks for being so supportive!
