how do you think the PhD students would feel about me contacting them to see if they have been assigned a student yet?
I’m very tempted to do that… Given that they don’t have that much say in the decision, I think it wouldn’t hurt?
@ccgreen Like I would phrase it in a way that expresses how much I am interested and want it, and in the case that I was not assigned to their project if there were any other available internships/positions in the summer that I could apply to so that I would have the ability to learn more

Another (super creepy) thing I was thinking of was to email some random person in the daad rise 2015 facebook group and ask them if they received the facebook link with their acceptance e-mail. That way we could kind of know if there is a lag between getting acceptance and getting in the facebook group (if there’s no lag, then there’s still half the scholarships available).
@Biochick9 That sounds pretty neat! I think I’ve seen someone who didn’t get the award but contacted the PhD student and got funding from them on Reddit. Maybe I’ll email them tomorrow…
I told the PhD student that interviewed me that if he didn’t get funding for his project that I’d be willing to fund myself (what’s another $300 of debt?) and he seemed enthusiastic about it. So I mean that could be an option

@ponderosa61 There is definitely lag between acceptance email & facebook group. My friend was accepted at beginning of march, yet he is not in the facebook group.
I’ll message someone in the group I guess (putting the creepy hat on now)

there are still 160 spots left in the fb group so there is still hope. My hope is that by friday they have at least provided some sort of communication to us
I have decided to take action; I contacted DAAD about the general state of the acceptances, whether or not they stopped, and I have also contacted all three of the projects that I applied to, to see if they have received a research intern or not.
@jlopez68 I messaged one of the projects. Let me know if you hear back from DAAD

I got accepted for DAAD and am part of the Facebook group. I got the acceptance on February 27, and then got another email yesterday with additional information about finance, Visas etc. along with a link to the Facebook group.
