DAAD Rise 2015

This might be useful to someone out there:
The PhD student of my third choice project told me that last year he heard back from RISE until the end of March and we needed to be patient for a few more days.

I’m dying…

I just got a response from the supervisor of the project I’m hoping to get, he said he hasn’t hear from DAAD either so he called them after he got my email. They said they are still busy matching applications and working on their finances. They promised to get back to him next week so there is still some hope! But I am already in the process of making alternative plans.

As much as I hate waiting, it’s nice to know that there is a sliver of hope. I was thinking they were just making us wait on the rejection letters. But the fact that PhD students don’t know yet is a little bit reassuring. I’m starting to make alternate summer arrangements but I probably won’t hear from those until end of March so regardless I’m waiting

Turned down by 1st and 2nd choice; still waiting for the 3rd. Backup plan ready.

My other guy just contacted me saying he couldn’t take me on properly since I need at least 3 years of undergrad to do any effective work with him, but he could sort of 2 weeks of introductory work on Monte Carlo simulations starting May 18th. I’m not sure if it’s funded yet, but it’s defo too early since my exams don’t finish before then…

@ccgreen‌ you contacted the PhD students right? Not their supervisor?
None of the three I emailed have responded

@Biochick9‌ I contacted the project supervisors…I’m hoping what other people said about PhD students not knowing about the results yet is somewhat good.

Has anyone heard anything about the internship in Dortmund with High Voltage Engineering or in Ilmenau with power/energy systems?

@Biochick9 Yeah, the students, not the supervisors. Guess it takes some time for different people to respond. Good luck!

There are significantly more projects available than the 300 scholarships DAAD can provide so some projects might not get any undergrads at all. But still, I feel like everyone accepted so far would have been sent the fb group link by now, and there are only 167 people in it. Hmmmmmmmm

There are 510 projects if I remember correctly… Did the counting during winter break

So just because I said I’d report back, I emailed the project I had the biggest chance of getting into and he said he already has someone. This is looking pretty bleak at this point…

I’m a UK student and got my acceptance email on the 27th Feb.

Does anyone know when the last day of acceptances is? I haven’t heard back yet and don’t know if I should email the PhD students.

@jmp1919‌ honestly at this point it wouldn’t hurt to email them.

Has anyone emailed DAAD directly? I just secured my back up plan and I have to accept the offer by next Sunday. But I still want to know for sure how DAAD is doing… Should I just email them?

The PhD students were quite quick to respond, 2/3 rejections though! Just awaiting the 3rd now

I emailed my first choice PhD student, and he said that I’m first on his list. The question is whether the project gets funding or not. It’s good to know that I haven’t been rejected… By him at least… Now I ‘just’ have to wait for DAAD

I know that I was high on one of the PhD students list (not sure if I was first but I was in the top few), and still no response from DAAD or the PhD student. This is so frustrating.

One of the PhD students that I had interview with replied me, saying that I had one of the strongest application out of 24. She was particularly impressed with my interview performance, which stood out the most among other applicants. But, she felt that my career of goal doesn’t matched up with her project, so I didn’t get selected at the end. On a bright side, she refers me to a project coordinator and that two of the senior scientists have backed up my candidacy.
