DAAD Rise 2015

Just emailed with a PhD student, who chose me as number one and has not heard anything back from DAAD. He said: we’d be excited to have you hear. When would you like to start? …so that’s hopeful! It’s not over yet people!

would it be bad to message the admin of the DAAD rise 2015 group?

Go for it. At this point nothing to lose

@Biochick9 and to anyone who emailed the PhD students…Do you mind if I ask what you wrote in your email to them? I don’t want to sound rude or anything of the sort. Thanks in advance!

@jmp1919‌ in a nut shell my email: Dear ____, My name is and I applied to your project through DAAD RISE. I have not gotten the results yet, however I am reaching out to you as I am very interested in your work and would love to get involved. I am in high hopes, however I would be very grateful of the opportunity to work with you and learn from you. If you have any positions available for a summer student I would be appreciative of the chance to apply. Thank-you.
I put a little bit more than that but pretty much that in a nut shell. I didnt really phrase it as asking if they had someone, I phrased it as I would love to work with you and in your lab and if DAAD doesnt work out is there any positions available.

Hi guys
I have been in touch with the PhD students and one of them told me this. I hope this helps.
" Dear _____,
No news yet. But don’t worry, I’ve talked to my colleagues who have supervised RISE scholarship program before. It is totally normal and German bureaucracy is very slow. I just feel sorry that you have to experience it right away.

@Biochick9‌ Unless you absolutely need to know because of something else, just be patient.

I wouldn’t actually :stuck_out_tongue: I just really want to know!

I emailed all three PhD students but none of them has replied :frowning:

@Kinghter‌ I emailed the PhD and some supervisors and no response

@Biochick9‌ Did you email the supervisorss and the PhD student separately or just CC’d one of them when emailing the other? I’ve been thinking about emailing the supervisor… but I’ve already the PhD student… would that be weird or too intrusive?

@ccgreen‌ I emailed them separately

@biochick9 I remember reading in their email that they would respond in first half of March about the outcome of selection process, and I think first half has already ended but they haven’t sent out rejection to liberate me =((

Got the rejection letter today. Good luck all

same here finally got the rejection!

I got rejected today too! Good luck to everyone!

Rejected as well! Good luck everyone

Still haven’t heard anything…considering this most recent string of rejections, I can’t tell if this is a good or bad thing.

I received a rejection from DAAD too, but after receiving it, I also received an email from one of the PhD students requesting for a skype interview. This was in response to an email I sent yesterday. However, I said I was willing to fund myself…

I don’t know if I should go ahead with it…

@stevenbond‌ I’d say go for it. A skype interview wouldn’t hurt, and maybe the PhD student is able to get external funding for you. Unless you are seriously not interested, there’s no harm in going through an interview
