Discussion for applicants and accepted students to DAAP for all majors (some are 5 year programs hence the 2023 graduation year). Expecting to hear back mid-January/ February! Comment with any insight/ statistics/ info etc.!
I wish they would give us a more specific date! Applying for DAAP Industrial Design.
I know- I keep checking even though I know no decision will be there for a while. I couldn’t find a thread about past DAAP acceptances to get an idea either. My son applied DAAP Industrial Design also.
My daughter applied and already got her acceptance packet for DAAP in early December. However, it is for the Fine Arts program not ID. We are still up in the air about the strength of the Fine Arts program there, doesn’t seem to be a priority of the school. Her ACT was 33, 4.56 weighted GPA and 4.0 unweighted. GPA 5 AP classes and 3 CCP classes.
Thanks for starting this. Anxiously waiting here for DAAP as well. D18 applied to Industrial Design.
That’s so interesting! I’ve never heard of other instances like that. DAAP’s design programs are definitely incredibly strong however the Fine Arts program is too. I may be wrong, but I think they recently integrated co-ops into the Fine Arts program, which didn’t exist before, which gives UC’s art school a huge competitive edge and making the program so much better. Congrats to her!
I guess i’ll post my stats too. Applied to Graphic Communication Design back in November. 30 ACT 3.7 GPA with 6 AP credits. Really involved in extra curriculars, national honor society, class officer, and completed 2 design internships last summer in the design industry. l also went to DAAP camp in 2017 and 2016! Good luck to everyone!
Just got my emailed acceptance for Communication Design! Good luck to everyone!
Just got my acceptance to DAAP ID!!!
My daughter just got her acceptance to DAAP ID as well! Where else did you apply @calebstone?
My daughter also just received her acceptance to ID which is very exciting! We are wondering when they usually give financial aid or scholarship information. Would that have been posted with the acceptance?
@IDtoTX I live in NY so I applied to Pratt (I did the precollege program there), Carnegie Mellon, Parsons, Syracuse, and then a bunch of other safeties I didn’t have much of an interest in.
@mednerd3 we haven’t received any scholarship or financial information yet. I think that’s in Feb or March.
We live in TX so we haven’t visited the campus yet. Does anyone have an idea if there is an admitted students day for DAAP or if we should just plan on going on our own time?
My son got his e-mail yesterday (or possibly accessed his email that day) - accepted to DAAP ID. He is still preferring the program at the University of Minnesota but I’m encouraging him to take a closer look at DAAP. He did attend the summer camp this past summer so I’m not sure if it’s worth taking another trip out. He is feeling nervous about the co-op part of the program.
I was accepted to DAAP Industrial design on 1-5-2018. Last year they sent them out on jan 15th ish. My stats: 3.9 uw and 4.5 w gpa with a 27 ACT. I filled up all ten slots with activities i’m really involved in and had 5 art awards. I also take dual enrollment classes at a local college and will graduate with 40 college credits. I also had outstanding letters of recommendation (some of my teachers let me read them afterwards). I was nervous about my act but i felt as though every other aspect of my application was good enough and i got in in the end! So excited to go there next fall.
My D was accepted to the Urban Planning program in late November. We were surprised to hear back to so early in the process as we were expecting to have to wait until January. I think my daughter may have heard as early as she did because the Urban Planning degree may not be as competitive as other design/architectural degree programs. Very excited about this opportunity for my daughter and a visit to the University in February.
Anyone have any insights/information about the urban planning program in particular?
I got into the Urban Design program but today requested to switch to Interior Design. Does anyone know when that program closes or if they will close before having looked at all applications?
And I’m also wondering if that request to change forfeits the position I had in Urban Planning.
Thanks.
@CLEkid1 I think Interior Design is a program that’s highly competitive so I’m not sure how that would work if you tried to switch in. I think your best bet is to contact the DAAP admissions team and speak to them.
I got word last week that I was accepted into their Architecture program. ACT 27 & GPA 4.0
I live near campus so have been there a whole bunch of times. They don’t have any “admitted seniors” days, unlike some colleges. They have the open houses (which are really more for prospective students) and college close ups (which are much smaller and more personalized visits). I’m sure if you asked they’d be more than willing to give you a close up from an admitted student point of view.
Yes, there is an admitted student’s weekend called the “Bearcat Brunch”. If your daughter was invited to the Honors program at UC she’ll be invited to the Saturday gathering on the same weekend as other Honors invitees.
