Hey everyone. I’m a junior who is interested in applying to Questbridge next year and happens to be a DACA student.
Just out of curiosity, is there anyone on this forum who is also a DACA student and has been named a Questbridge Finalist? I don’t remember where I saw it, but I saw that only 4% of Questbridge Finalists were DACA students.
This is going to sound idiotic, but would being a DACA student raise my chances of being selected as a Questbridge Finalist next year? I’m saying this because it’s one of the only opportunities I have to attend college after high school due to my status. As a DACA student, I am unable to receive FAFSA nor instate financial aid. I also am unable to attend any of the schools in my state (Georgia). I would consider myself a high-achieving student, so I would hate for my high school years to go to waste. I’m a first-generation Hispanic female, by the way. I am also pretty sure that I meet the financial requirements, as well. I live in a $400,000 house, which might be a red flag, but we do not own the house - we rent it for pretty cheap. My parents are divorced, and I live with my mom who doesn’t have a job. Both of my parents make less than $50,000 combined.
But yeah, let me know what you guys think. I would especially love to hear what other DACA students have to say about the Questbridge experience. If anyone knows of any other scholarships for DACA students, I would love to hear about those, as well.
Sorry, I don’t really know much about DACA applying for QB, but I would still say it’s worth a shot. I am a QB finalist and if you ever need information in the future or even just a support system, feel free to message me! Also live in GA as well haha. Good luck with your junior year and hope you find options when applying!
Hi! I’m not a DACA student, but I had a similar predicament to yours- I’m not eligible for federal or state financial aid due to the fact that I am in the US on a visa. Only 3% of the QB finalists were non-citizens so I was slightly disheartened. But I’m here to tell you not to pay attention to those percentages! I was named a QB finalist this year and I got matched to one of the partner colleges. I don’t know if being DACA will increase your chances of becoming a finalist, but regardless of whether or not it will you should apply! Hope this helps!
HEY, I literally just made an account on this website and already found a great thread i can contribute to.
I am a DACA student from Maryland who was selected as a finalist last October and was matched to Bowdoin College just a month ago. I would definitely give QB a shot especially considering the tight situation we’re in. There are actually a good number of DACA students that I know of who also became finalists (we have a facebook group chat and there’s around 70 of us). I don’t think that being a DACA student would raise your chances above all of the other applicants but if your grades are there and you write some good essays, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t become a finalist
