Daily Cal: "It's surprising that UC Berkeley...is unable to handle free speech"

It’s surprising that UC Berkeley, home of the Free Speech Movement, is unable to handle free speech. I’m referring to, most recently, the widespread hysteria over the Black Student Union’s decision to host the controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan at UC Berkeley.

Farrakhan and UC Berkeley’s free speech fallacy | The Daily Californian

What goes around comes around.

The student organizations focused on race or religion do seem to be the ones most easily offended and least accepting of someone else’s speech, especially that which they feel is offensive to their race or religion.

people are way too easily butthurt these days.

People also seem to misinterpret the actual meaning of free speech, as though inviting someone to speak and saying you can’t (justifiably) ban him from doing so inherently prohibits anyone from criticizing what he has to say.

I’m guessing the opposition is partly just over needing to save face so nobody accuses you of not being “[insert group adjective]” enough, but the trend is rather worrying.

Black Student Union and Louis Farrakhan?
I would stay away…

Going to this would definitely wreck my presidential aspirations.

^lol, now that’s funny
