Damn you, careless mistakes!...

I'm having som real trouble not making careless mistakes on the SAT, the Math section in particular. Tips and strategies of how to decrease the amount of careless mistakes would be really helpful.

Here's my situation:
On every test I've done, including both practice and the real deal, I seem to make loads of careless mistakes. On the last Reasoning I did (for real) I left the test center feeling confident; the figure 800 didn't seem that far away. However, when the results were disclosed mine were a feeble 670...
On the first practice test of this "season" (autumn that is), I scored a 790. All careless mistakes totally absent. However, on the test I did yesterday, the second test of the "season", I dropped down to a 670... As I corrected the test I noticed that all except two errors were careless mistakes. A scenario with none of these stupid mistakes would have produced a 770.

I really don't find the SAT math difficult, but always tend to score low due to these careless mistakes. Does anyone have some concrete strategies that I can practice to avoid this problem? Someone with experience of getting rid of careless mistakes?

I need help with preventing careless mistakes, too :frowning:

Here are some suggestions:
Double check your work, and if you have time, triple check.
Underline important parts of the problem so you don’t misread it or anything.

check using diff approaches on questions that you’re unsure, also check by hand and calculator, read the question carefully, and understand what to look for, i.e. question asked for Y instead of X.

If you’re getting a 670, then it’s probably not due to careless mistakes. Try to take a few more practice tests and if you’re scores hover around a score above 750 within a 20 point radius, then it might be careless mistakes.

I make silly mistakes too! I make about 2 per M section (resulting in about 760 score) and I also make 1 or 2 in W per test…

How do you guys get 800s? I find it so hard to not make silly errors!

For math, I solve every problem twice. And hardly ever make careless mistakes.

If your making “careless” mistakes then be more careful. If your making mistakes then get better.
