I want to dance in college, still trying to figure out if I'd like to major in it or do it as an extracurricular or something. For the dance major at Oberlin, does it just include ballet and contemporary? I don't see any jazz or anything else from what I can see on their website. And I wasn't that impressed by the modern choreography. What are the clubs like for dance at oberlin? sorry this is such a vague question, in general I'm just looking for more information about the dance major because the website didn't provide me with much. What is like the average day for a dance major? How much actual dance is it in relation to other classes? and is it really difficult to double major?

I cannot answer about dance but I do know a bit about the double major. You can do it, but it can take 5 years to complete which means an extra year of tuition and room and board. My D is in the con, after much consideration she choose not to double major but has friends who are. They have a heavy load trying to balance it all and get the required classes scheduled. Oberlin is small and many of the courses are only offered once a year, so scheduling can be difficult. My D is having trouble getting her major required classes scheduled. It seems to be a pretty common issue to get into required classes all over campus. Bigger schools have more options for scheduling. I would keep that in mind if you want to double major.

Scubachick: as a faculty member at Oberlin, I do not think your characterization is accurate. Many Oberlin students double (or even triple!) major, and almost all of them graduate in four years. Since your daughter is in the Con, maybe you’re thinking of the double-degree program (in which students earn both a BA in the College and a BM in the Con), and that does indeed usually take five years. But completing two majors in the college can easily be done in four.

I was actually referring to both. I did not say it could not be done, but that it can be difficult. I am pleased you feel that it can be done. As a college professor and tuition paying parent, I have been frustrated at the difficulties my D has had scheduling required courses at Oberlin. OP needs to be aware that more semesters may be required due to potential difficulties in scheduling classes for two majors.

My daughter graduated from Oberlin with a double major in Philosophy and English, (and did an honors project in Philosophy) in 4 years. (Not in the con, though)
My daughter is currently doing a triple major- also not in the con, but her courses have a lot of overlap. She’ll graduate in four years.
