Does anyone have any info on what the dance portion of the auditions for this year will be like?

Very very simple steps. Nothing to worry about at all. Emerson doesn’t factor in dance as highly as voice and acting.

I have no way of knowing the case for this year but when my daughter auditioned for Emerson 6 years ago, the dance audition was incredibly basic and easy. My D was an advanced dancer and said the dance audition was almost a joke and remarked that someone who had never taken a dance class in their life could do it just fine. I have heard the same type of feedback in subsequent years. You don’t have to know how to dance to do their audition!

Was it to You can’t Stop the Beat? With step touches and grapevine? Hasn’t changed!! My D, a singer who moves, said that it was extremely simple. They were great though, and it was run well and they were super nice.

I never asked her what the music was for the dance. And at this point, it was a long time ago. But I just remember her saying it was of the level of “dance for a non-dancer.”

My daughter had the same experience 4 years ago.

I just had the Emerson audition on Sunday, December 5th and it was very simple. As long as you can move your limbs, you will be fine.

not sure where else to post this. emerson audition is great but know 2 things: first, they will ask the students what order they want to go in. don’t know if there is an advantage one way or another but they will ask who wants to go first, second, etc. also be prepared to talk about yourself a bit – they have a group intro session and I think they may base decisions on how you handle yourself.

good luck! My D went through it all last year and in the end survived and got in to a great school so hang in there for a tough year.

I just got back from the Chicago UNIFIED auditions and did the 4 hour Emerson audition lol.
It was great fun. Nothing to difficult.
