Dance colleges in California

I go to a performing arts high school in Oslo, Norway at the moment and am starting my senior year after summer. I really want to attend a college in LA or around the area where I can study more dance. If it is a BA or BFA it doesnt really matter as long as the college has a dance program.

I have looked at AMDA, Calarts, Berkeley and LMU... but there has to be more schools?? What colleges am I missing?

There’s also USC (new Dance Dept), Chapman, UC Irvine (the best program within the UC system), and Cal State Long Beach. The relative strengths of each school depend on what type of dance you’re looking for. University of Arizona has a wonderful dance program as well.

Oh, and although I am sure that you know this, Berkeley is in Northern California.

There is a section on this site dedicated to Dance majors, which you may find helpful.

could you send me the link?:)

I have heard really good things about Chapman - my DD didn’t want to go that far away from home.

My daughter is applying to the following CA schools: LMU (a number of girls from her dance company have gone there), Chapman, and a couple of UCs. The head of her dance company also recommended Long Beach State, but the school itself isn’t a good fit for what she wants. Univ of Az is also on her list; all other schools are on the east coast.

There are some excellent dancers coming out of Cal State Fullerton. The teachers are excellent, as are the facilities. There are many international students at that college as well. Check it out.
