I'm very interested in taking a dance course during my first year at UW. But does the most basic dance classes require any prior experience? I have absolute no dance background, but I truly have that "willing to learn" type mentality when it comes to dance. I've always wanted to learn dance. Any style of dance will suffice. Also, I would like to know if the courses is comprised of simply dancing or if there is more to it than that. I would appreciate a personal brief description of the dance class-nothing copied and pasted from the UW course catalog. Much thanks!

Dance 101 & 102 are for beginners. From quarter to quarter there may be other dance classes you can take without any experience. My roommate took a swing dancing class in Spring (I think it was Dance 231) that requested a year of dance experience, but she had no experience at all. She said that class was in some ways her hardest class for her that quarter, though, and she was also taking Chem & Calculus… But I think she ended up enjoying it. As far as what you would learn in Dance 101 & 102 (beyond the course catalog description) - it is probably going to vary according to instructor. I haven’t taken any Dance classes personally, but if you can get into them, I’ve heard they’re enjoyable.
