We are in Virginia and are looking for a college not terribly far but within reason. My daughter would like to find a college that offers a dance major with an emphasis on ballet. She plans on double majoring with Communications as the second degree.</p>

<p>Have you looked at Goucher College (MD) ?</p>
<p>University of Maryland CP has a large dance program with new performing arts center. good for ballet</p>
<p>Elon in NC has a good dance program</p>
<p>George Mason has a somewhat new dance program. Very intense and small (20 students) with tremendous teacher-student interaction</p>
<p>University of South Carolina has a very strong ballet program.</p>
<p>Florida State University may be too far, but has an excellent dance program.</p>
<p>Isn’t there a program at VCU? I remember reading about one in VA recently, but I am not certain which university it was.</p>

<p>You have not stated your daughter’s Class Rank, GPA or SAT/ACT scores, so it is hard to make suggestions without that information. Or if you will need financial aid. </p>

<p>Duke is certainly close to Virginia and has a very strong dance program; ballet is one of its specialties. It doesn’t offer communications, though many English and related majors go into that field nevertheless.</p>
