Good luck to 1,300 NU students who begin 30 hours of dancing tonight to raise money for children's cancer research. Last year NU Dance Marathon raised $1 million and according to my son, had tons of fun. He is dancing again this weekend, leading a group from his fraternity.

So glad to hear that your S is dancing again this year, since I was afraid that it might kill D this year. Glad to hear that at least some kids live to dance again! ;-D

Congratulations and good luck to everyone who is participating!!

Go Dancin’ Cats! (In both senses of the word). Raise money for charity, but show no mercy to Iowa.

My second date with my husband (of 25 years) was the 1983 NU Dance Marathon! Neither of us were dancers, but we went to support our friends who were. The hot song of the time was Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” which I distinctly remember dancing to, and I fell in love with my husband on the DM dance floor. I am so impressed with how DM has grown throughout the years and am proud to support my son and his friends.

For those not in the Chicagoland area, you might be interested to note that on I-294, there is a billboard promoting the NU Dance Marathon.

This is the first year my daughter is not participating (she has the last 2 years), she just has too much going on this weekend that she can’t miss. She has mixed feelings about it but will visit with little treats and snacks for her friends and they’ll appreciate that.

I remember doing a few dance marathons when I was in college - they are so much fun.

We weren’t sure D was really going to be able to do it until after it was too late to order her care packages… so hopefully she has some sweet friends like amtc’s D to bring sustenance to her while she’s dancing!

I bet they will all have a blast, but will be wrecked next week. It’s Reading Week, true?

My son isn’t dancing but I am in awe of what these kids do every year at NU’s dance marathon. I am in Evanston this weekend and plan to stop by the tent tomorrow. Go Cats!

MomCares - My D danced for 4 years, (thanks to co-op and study abroad) BUT her last year she was on the committee that fed/watered the dancers. I think your D should be ok - but friends stopping buy can really help, from what I understand.

I wouldn’t know being the owner of 2 left feet and a sense of rhythm to match. Don’t understand how my kids can do dance, theater and sports…

@nugraddad - Great to hear that there are official folks helping to keep the dancers standing. Like you, I live in constant awe of the amazing things that our kids are capable of that I never was!!

I wonder if they’ve started dancing yet?

D did it last year but Monday final exam forced her withdrawal this year. Don’t know details but think exams should be AFTER study week.

In Block 3 right now! I visited my buddies during their breaks and the energy is amazing. View the live feed at [Northwestern University Dance Marathon](http://www.nudm.org)

Thanks for the link. Oh! You can “buy” a 3 hour block as an alum, and dance! Wish I’d known about this earlier as it is too late for this weekend and I have other plans – but I am so totally getting an alum group together next year and doing this!

cubecul - you beat me to it! I was going to post that for momcares. In the past I would keep it streaming on my computer “just in case” I’d see her or her friends. It is interesting to see how it’s done as each school does their marathons differently.

Momcares - it is reading week next week but theatre classes are held during reading week and sometimes finals are during reading week, if they have any. Theatre classes do not give exams during exam week. Should your daughter lessen her non-theatre classes her terms will end a bit earlier because of this.

@amtc - thanks for the added info!

I just got a text from D. It succinctly said… “I’m dying.” ;-D

Does anyone know if there’s anything we can still have sent to be delivered to her while she’s dancing? Can local bakeries or… deliver stuff to dancers during the Marathon?

No, but groups all across campus have organized support committees to deliver food and drink to their dancers.

Love this!! I am in awe of the level of energy-even after 24 hours! I hope they meet or exceed what they raised last year. I donated-so proud of them!!

Just heard they raised $1,107,670.00!!!

Go (get some well-earned SLEEP) Wildcats!!

MomCares sorry I didn’t see your post yesterday - I would have been happy to bring by something for your D. There was a lot of food donated by local food places though so I think the dancers were well fed!

@jrpar - That is so sweet! She must have been well cared-for since she lived to tell the tale! I can’t wait to hear her stories… once she’s awake. ;-D

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who helped make this years’ DM such a huge success!
