@keeping calm Does your D like PP? My D is also looking there in hopes of pursuing a double major in MT and Business/Marketing. What can you tell us about the MT program?

KeepingCalm beat me to it but I was also going to say that dance minors often require an audition and a fairly advanced level achieved already.

There are a few schools with minors that look suitable for someone who isn’t advanced. I don’t remember where they are as that didn’t interest us but I remember the class list was sort of dull - lots of folk dancing from around the world and a beginning ballet class. I don’t really see the value in that for a busy MT person. So do look at course selection careful as SoozieVT said.

Some schools with big dance programs also have community classes in the evenings and weekends (Point Park, OCU, for starters) so one could take more classes if desired. Those two schools I think also offer a discount to full time students for the community classes.

MrsDrz - my D loves PP. Love the people and friends she has made, love the size of the school. She is a dance major who is debating minoring in MT not and MT major. I am not sure the MT majors can double major. They don’t let kids select a minor until their sophmore year. I would check as it may depend on whther your D is bringing in credits. They were very generous with my D is award transfer credits that she took as a HS senior (the converted quarter credits to semester but all but the math ended up being electives.)

I don’t really have time to go through all these posts, but I wanted to tell you that my son took many extra / elective dance classes in his MT major at Elon, without having to declare a dance minor. He would have had a dance minor, possibly almost double major, but he didn’t take a couple of required dance classes, such as history of dance and choreogrphy (I think). Elon’s schedule allows much flexibility for electives, and he chose to dance as many of his electives, often dancing 3 - 5 hours a day.

This extra work served him well, and he just rolled off of playing Mike in the national tour of A Chorus Line!

And I saw him and he was terrific!!!
