I'm looking for a good dance performance program, that offers lots of different styles of dance, along with voice and acting training.
One program that I've found is the Oklahoma City University dance performance major, and I need help finding more programs similar to this!

My S is still a junior, so I can only speak from my research, not from experience, but I understand that Pace offers a commercial dance major, and has an excellent MT program, so I would think that might be a good place to look. Otterbein offers an MT program with a Dance Concentration, as does Roosevelt CCPA. Please let me know if you find others, as my S wants strong dance/singing/acting too!

My D has same criterea for her search and just auditioned at SUNY@Buffalo and Muhlenberg this weekend. The Muhlenberg program is non-audition, that was for scholarship. They both look like great programs, but opportunities for Dance/MT look a little better at Muhlenberg. The Dance BFA at Buffalo has an acting class as part of curriculum, but voice classes are not available for dance majors. They would have to find a private instructor. They can audition for school MT productions at both.
The other two on her list are OCU - she didn’t get offered the dance performance major, so that is now off the table - and Pace. Others I encouraged her to look at are Ball State and Alabama. Not sure about the dance programs at those two, as she nixed them early on.

Thank you so much! PACE is on my list!
And I found the school “Barry University” in Miami that has a Dance/acting/theatre degree.

I definitely second taking a look at Muhlenberg! They have a BA in dance and a BA in theatre, and you can double major, plus you can also take voice lessons all four years. There are lots of performance opportunities, and both the Theatre head Charlie Richter and the dance head Karen Dearborn are great. I am sure they would be happy to tell you more about the programs if you contact them. No idea what your academic credentials are, but be aware that the school is a bit more competitive academically than some of the others, but the Dept of theatre and dance will definitely help with admissions if they decide that they want you, should you need it. Auditions are only for scholarships, as Berricre8v says.

I haven’t heard of Barry University, so can’t help you there! Good luck!

zebrarunner - it sounds like you have experience with Muhlenberg. My D forgot to ask about when she would hear results of audition this weekend. Does that just come with financial aid packet? Or will she hear if she received something before then?

@Berricre8v At my audition in October Muhlenberg said you’ll find out about the scholarship when you receive your admissions result which is in March.

Ok, thanks JDancer.

The dance major at James Madison University includes classes in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, African, Ballroom, Folk, etc… Students can take acting and voice classes. Some choose to minor in theatre.

The dance performance opportunities tend to be more contemporary modern. Students may audition for musicals and plays if their schedules allow. Many times the musicals and plays rehearse at the same time as the dance concerts.

Another option to explore at James Madison would be the MT major. They take dance classes with the dance majors. Although the MTs generally cannot audition for the departmental dance concerts, there is a dance performance group on campus called Madison Dance in which quite a few of the MTs participate.
