Dance Program

I am currently a junior in out of state high school and I hope to attend FSU in the fall of 2017 as a dance major (BFA). The dance program is outstanding and It is number one on my list! I am a very strong dancer and am pretty confident I will do well in the auditions but I am worried that my application may be denied based on academics alone before I even have the chance to audition. I am a very average student - grades, test scores, ranking. Any information regarding the dance program and the admissions process would be appreciated.

FSU has a very competitive admissions process. If your grades and test scores are not high, they may not admit you even with talent. This is very true for the Music Program as well. I know students who are starting at Tallahassee Community College because they could not get into FSU as Freshmen and are hoping to transfer over after a year or two. Could this be a possibility for you?

What is average? You may be underestimating your record.

I have a 3.3 GPA (out of 4.5) halfway through my junior year (a couple of honors courses) and a 23 ACT. I might be able to pull my GPA up to a 3.4 by the end of the year. I am out of state and my high school is very competitive and I know students from school admitted in the past have had higher stats but none were dance majors. I am hoping admissions into the BFA dance program at FSU is a little more forgiving when it comes to the academics.
