Dance Resumes

Hi, my daughter will be applying to colleges in the months to come. She is a dancer. So I was wondering when attaching a resume, should the resume be a concise account of academic and dance history? Or should the dance resume be a separate one?

Any suggestions on ones previously done.

Thanks

Hi. Each school is very specific in what they want. The dance dept. really dont care about the academics. A good dance resume should suffice. Some want a resume and a dance education/accolades resume also. I did 2 separate ones and only included 9-12th grade dance education info. Also, make sure you have good head shots and alot of schools want a shot in arabesque. Check each school closely. Good Luck

Mine only submitted a dance resume when called for. The academics and other stuff was covered in the common application.

I agree with dancerinpa - Each school that my DD applied to, which in the case could be dancing daughter or darling daughter :), all required something different. Some wanted all the years of experience in each genre plus teachers, another wanted performance experience, another wanted all of it. The websites are usually specific. Most would also want a picture. This, I think, was used to match up names and faces during the audition. For most schools there is an audition too, sometimes videos can be submitted but my feeling personally is they like the dancer to be there in person.

We also found that every college asked for something different. Some colleges ask specifically for a dance resum

Just a postnote… I am assuming all the info in a resum

Does anybody have a good sample of a dance resume? Does it look just like a regular resume, but listing dance education and employment?

I would make it like a regular resume.

Thanks. I found some on line. They suggest you provide information about height and weight, but that is probably only needed if you are seeking a performing job. I’ll work it out.
