does columbia have a hip hop dance class..i checked on the course catalog and didn't find anything like that..

The dance program is based out of Barnard. But I think it's mostly contemporary.

If you really want to take hip hop you could just take a class at a dance studio.

thats the issue though...i'll have to pay(probably a lot since its in NY)..whereas it will be totally free if it was offered as a aclass(like it is at other colleges). Are you very sure there's no class like that?

^A single class at most dance studios would run you between $10 and $20 dollars, same as anywhere else.

Not true. There are six levels each of modern (contemporary) and ballet offered each semester. In addition, there are offerings of various things like pilates, jazz, tap, and other styles as guest instructors come on board. Also, the student dance group Orchesis holds auditions toward the beginning of each semester for a student-choreographed show, and there is often a hip-hop style piece.

As was mentioned above, classes at Broadway Dance Center and/or STEPS run $15-20 (recently was $15...may have gone up) for a 1 1/2 hour class and usually offered at differing levels (beg, adv beg, int, adv int, adv). Be aware, though, that even the advanced beginning classes in any given style can be quite challenging!!! You can check out the studio schedules online at their websites.

i definitely took a hip-hop dance class at one point.

edit: not that it did my white ass any good

you sure?.....how long ago was this?..

You might check out some of the Columbia student dance groups, if you haven't done that yet. Sometimes student groups give lessons, especially when they're recruiting new members.
