Miley, I know you are not a parent of a “she” - (I looked at your other posts, including the one where you posted your stats and said you are a male dancer)

The answer is generally - yes, you should submit a dance video if the school will look at it.

If you want to major in dance, then you need to check whether that school has audition requirements or specific requirements as to format of submissions. I know, for example, that Chapman (one of the colleges on your list) - requires auditions.

But even if you don’t want to major in dance, the video (or DVD) can be a boost. My daughter submitted a DVD of her choreography to University of Chicago – which doesn’t even have a dance department or dance classes – and she was accepted there. Of course we will never know whether the DVD helped or not – but she felt at the time that it was a way of demonstrating something about herself.

If you are a halfway good dancer, then as a male dancer you will be very much sought out at any college with a dance department. They need guys to partner with the girls, and as you probably already know, the ratio of female to male dancers tends to be imbalanced at most studios and schools.

But definitely research things in advance – the timing of auditions can vary, and it is easy to mess up or miss a deadline without planning. Also, be careful to research each school’s policy on submissions – while some colleges welcome the extra stuff, others may not accept it. (My daughter applied to about 12 colleges, but only 2 would allow her to submit the dance DVD - but she got into both schools, and both were huge reaches for her, so I have to think those DVD’s helped. )
