What do they mean when they say that the deadline is " postmarked and due Jan 1"....does it mean that I have to send in BEFORE Jan 1 ...or...is it ok if I submit ON Jan 1....what is the final deadline!!??

1st is a holiday.......and this year a Sunday. Look at the specifics for the school.

I'm sending it via mail, so I'll get it in tomorrow (31st) morning, for what it's worth.

naa... I mean the other things such as tranascripts and stuff that the GCs are supposed to send...and I forgot to tell you...I am an international and 1 Jan is not a holiday over here!!

yaa and one more thing my main application is online and will reach on time!! just want to know for other supporting docs.

haha my mother tried to convince me that commonapp online is closed on holidays and sundays.

Ntek, When schools specify a deadline, they mean ALL application materials should either be in or postmarked by the deadline --- in other words, they want the COMPLETE file by that date (or at least in the mail to them). So, yes, your recommendations, transcript, etc. should be postmarked on or before the specified deadline. Since you have already submitted your application online, and it is likely that your other materials will take several weeks to arrive if you're sending them by regular postal, I would suggest you email admissions and let them know that the other materials are on the way just so they know that you DO intend to complete your file. (You would be surprised at how many partial applications colleges get so don't assume that they will assume everything else is on the way.) They will NOT start processing your application until everything is in. Another thought might be to consider sending the additional materials by Next Day Air or some other expedited delivery service.

if its online, can it be sent on the first?
