So this is sort of a continuation of my last thread. It seems that it would be extremely unlikely for me to get a dorm, especially Miller Hall for ISHP. So I’m just wondering would it at all be possible for me to still get one this late? If not, does anyone know which apartments are affordable and good at the same time, being within distance to the campus? I’m also wondering what price is considered “affordable” since the lowest i’ve found is 925 a month, but does that mean the rent is divided among those living with you? well thanks!

None of us know if there are any dorms still available. What you have to do is call up housing and ask them yourself. There are such a multitude of apartments all over the place, low cost, high cost, close to campus, far from campus, multiple tenants, few tenants, etc, that its hard to estimate prices. To give you an idea my apartment(Allegre) is about two miles from campus and split among 5 people comes out to around $500 with utilities each. The rent is divided among the tenants depending on room size and other factors. And I'm going to go ahead and say that $925 is going to be split among multiple tenants, but just in case it isnt, then dont go for it, its too expensive :p. Also, I'm sure it wouldnt be a problem to accomodate one person in case you need an apartment. A few calls around the place after checking out some flyers or whatnot will definitely prove fruitful. Good luck..

I heard frm a friend of mine that goes to Davis, that I should just go to my student advisor, when i have sumer advising on wednesday. Hopefully, they'll be able to redirect me to some sort of dorm. My main concern is gettin a dorm right now, don't really care where...as long as its a dorm..and i can sleep in it/suitable/etc. Any tips? I had called housing, and the guy there made it seem that there was no chance...and I talked to him before and he literally scolded me for being late (which is my fault, but could have lessened the blow eh?) Well yeah...thanks!

Well.. you're probably not going to like what I have to say either. I don't know much about the dorm buisness.. but I can tell you about apartments. Most all apartment complexes in Davis do 12-month leases starting Sep. 1st. So, continuing students typically renew leases in about April-May ish & that is also the time when most apartment complexes know what thier openings are for fall. Now it's mid-August.. the apartment complexes that do have vacancies are probably more expensive. If you don't mind living with complete strangers, you might luck out finding an ad on craigslist for people looking for roomates for fall. But, you better start looking quickly 'cause otherwise you're going to be either really broke, homeless, or commuting from Sac. One bedrooms range from 750-1000 (depending on sq ft & ammenities).
