Dart vs UMiami

which one do u think it would be more beneficial to attend to do premed and go to med school, Dartmouth or a second tier school like UMiami. I understand med school is pretty much about the high gpa and high mcat scores, but if two students have the same scores and gpa at each school, wouldnt the dartmouth kid get better med school offers, considering everything else equal? so whats with the whole "where u go for undergrad doesnt matter" thing ive been hearing from like 548474894868 people. Can someone provide some insight on this please? itd mean a lot, thanks.

*i think i may have posted this in some premed forum too, but no luck...help would be great appreciated!

umiami is also freaking expensive...lol

yeh it is, but money's not an issue, UMIami's free for me, i got a full ride there, i wanna know financial matters aside. lol thanks though. :)

if money isnt an issue...go to Dartmouth. you should be able to have a good gpa there as well as having an awsome undergrad experience.

there must be more to this situation than you are indicating, if money is not an issue and you still need to ask this question.

well i guess the biggest underlying thing is that i dont know if its worth the risk to put myself in such a competitive scene and then hurt my chances for med school if gpa is lower than it wouldve been at UM

I faced roughly the same decision with going to Umich over Dartmouth last year. Its really a tough call...but I'd lean towards going to Umiami for free...only because I happen to know a couple people who turned down ivies to go to Miami free. It'll set you up really well for med school, and not having any debt going into grad school is always a plus. However, if you really want to go to dartmouth (if that's what will make you happiest) then you should go there, no question.

KB

Go to Miami. GPA and MCAT is the most important thing (maybe 90%) with 5% being which school you went to (5% misc).
I think the prospects of a higher GPA and no debt makes UMiami the SMART choice for med school. However, ivy leagues are often EMOTIONAL experiences....
Hope I helped.

"yeh it is, but money's not an issue, UMIami's free for me, i got a full ride there, i wanna know financial matters aside. lol thanks though."

You do mean that money's not an issue FOR UMiami because of the ride right? If money is not an issue for Dartmouth either, and there won't be any debt to speak of, Dart is probably the better choice. Otherwise, my previous advice holds true.

First of all, these two schools are NOT even in the same league! People who told you that "where you go for undergrad doesn't matter" are a bunch of liars! Just because they didn't get into a well known school for undergrad, they now go around telling people stuff like that (my science teacher went to University of Buffalo happens to be one of them)...I would say Dartmouth all the way BUT you really have to see the different factors like scholarships, setting (Miami vs. Hannover), diversity (mainly white vs mix) and weather (need I say more?) But yeah, I would go with Dartmouth, iono about you...

ha ha, that's so true, I would advise you to go to Miami just so that there's an extra spot at Dartmouth, maybe for me :D

But honestly, Dartmouth>>>>>>>UMIAMI No matter what you study!

Dartmouth is pretty diverse, if you're trying to imply that it's not.

Here's my experience: If you want top 10 med school and can get a 3.75+ at Dartmouth, it will be to your significant advantage to attend Dartmouth over a 4.0 at Miami.

BUT if you are a 3.2 student at Dartmouth and a 3.7 at Miami and JUST want to go to ANY med school Miami will probably be better.

interesting...like someone has to get A's right? (might as well be me :) )...interesting.
