09er here... how much drug use is there on campus?

Drug use (other than alcohol) is virtually nonexistant. I mean, some people smoke pot, but hard core drugs are very rare. Most people know the people/places where they are used. This was an important factor for me (I am very turned off by drug use, ever the cop's daughter!)

My AIM screen name is thetAbomb, and I am always on AIM at work, so send me an IM if any of you have questions! I feel sooooo old! I will be a senior when you 09s get here!

kimfuge, no. i meant it in the most endearing way possible.

if you dont like to drink, 1 of 2 things will happen: you will learn to, or you will hang out at concerts, shows, movies, with friends in the dorm, etc. what im saying is, while you dont have a city here, theres stuff to do

what kind of concerts and shows (names, please)?

Thanks a lot, Jolt.

I really appreciate it.

no prob ghaleon

going back to drugs, like half hte campus is addicted to Adderall. Its a drug that is supposed ot be for AD/HD patients, but i think some kids feel the pressure and have the urge to focus when studying. i dunno what the side effects are if any, but i know a lot of people use it, even though they are not perscribed to (i know a couple of sellers on campus)

concerts...Dashboard Confessional and Howie Day just played at Dartmouth's arena 2 weeks ago...does that count?

hey, did you get into the PLME program...i thought about applying, but i already had 7 other combined undergrad/med programs, and brown is INSANELY hard to get into...

oh, also i forgot sports games. i went to alot of football and rugby games and go to even more hockey games

jolt, what you said about there being ways around ok stats is really encouraging. i dont have the best gpa or sats but i think im good to go in the extracurricular department. do you have any suggestions for essays since yours were so killer? :) right now i have one about a goose stealing my dress and i dont know if it will cut it

Hey Jolt, what school did you go to? I'm also from South Florida. Does Nova High School ring a bell?

Hey guys, I'm applying RD to dartmouth... isn't there only one essay question? Jolt, were there more essays for you last year?

yeah i think theres only one newt, i suppose i was referring to different schools like upenn. what did you write on?

wow Jolt, I can totally understand why you were accepted :)

I wrote about one moment as a camp counselor when a troubled camper opened up to me about his life and I listened to him. I can PM it to you if you'd like, but I'd rather not post it here until after admissions decisions in april :)

hey newt- I would kind of like to see your essay. I'm an '08...I kinda know what's going on...kinda. But more than that- I'm just interested to see what people write about. I'm zrs@dartmouth.edu if that's cool with you.

And I think Jolt, as nice as I'm sure he is :), may be overstating the addiction to Aderol (sp?) on campus. I do know a few people who use it in ways they are not supposed to, but I truly doubt more than 1 out of 10 people use it improperly.

On drugs- I think not even too many people smoke weed, maybe 1/4 does it recreationally. I've heard of cocaine on campus...though I don't know who or when or any of the details- I've just heard tell. From greatest to least, my friends- 1. Drink alcohol 2. Drink and smoke weed 3. Don't drink at all. I think I know someone who doesn't drink, lol- maybe not...I'm really trying to think of someone. Ah who cares...I drink, so that's why I have the friends I do I guess!

Ya, I don't know anyone who takes adderall. To answer FountainSiren's post about the shows, these are some of the ones I remember seeing: Wired, a 24-hour playwriting experience (three different groups of writers start writing three different plays at 8 pm, cast them at 8am, and perform them at 8 pm the next night--awesome), Dashboard Confessionals & Howie Day concert, the play Illusion (I think loosely based on a play by Molliere), Dog Day Players improv comedy shows, Casual Thursday improv comedy shows, Rockapellas, Decibelles, Subtleties (female), Aires and Cords (male) and Dodecs (co-ed) a capella performances, gospel choir (sooo good, they're really incredible), Chamber singers, the musical review in Lone Pine (a group of students, including one of my roommates, performed about a dozen numbers from various musicals; it was hilarious and the singing was amazing). And most recently, I went to the Chamber singer/Glee Club Christmas carols in front of the huge xmas tree on the green, and it started to lightly snow while they sang--it was like something out of a movie. Oh, movies...I've also gone to quite a few movies at the Hop--you can get a film pass for the entire quarter for $12. Good investment. I saw Maria Full of Grace, Saved!, and some others that I can't remember. Anyway, it's impossible to go to all the Dmouth shows and there are plenty I skipped, and so if the things I went aren't your taste, don't worry. There's lots of other stuff that probably is.

Other than weed, I know a few people who use cocaine (relegated to one or two particular frats, I think), and an even smaller number who have used 'shrooms occasionally. I don't really know about prespcription drugs.

Don't worry about drug use. Even though there is a tiny bit of drug use on campus, believe me when I tell you there is ZERO pressure to try/use them. There is very little overt pressure to drink, but absolutely none to use drugs.

Jolt, your essays are nice. can I talk to you via email?if you are okay, then pls give me your email

Adderall can be addicting....

I am most likely going to be Iming some of you guys with my own private questions..my SN is my user name too.

Perhaps help me evaulate my essay...I think that could have been on reason I was rejected ED from NU
