@shocker7 In trying to arrange the interview for my D (whose assigned interviewer basically blew her off), I was told that the interviewer is given your name and your school but no other information; and that your application is read, and if you are on the cusp between admission or deferment, or deferment and rejection, then the interviewer’s comments are assessed and the application is reconsidered. Basically the interview rarely hurts you (only if you are cocky or rude) and rarely helps! It is to keep alumni involved and get the applicant excited about the school, which is not really needed if you are applying ED because you are presumably already excited. My sense is the interview is more of a tool for the RD applicants because if you are accepted, they want to protect their yield and have you matriculate.
thanks @moomom2 hope youre able to arrange the interview
@shocker7 thank you, yes, she is having a skype interview Wednesday. The office coordinating interviews was very accommodating. I just wanted her to have one because if she doesn’t get in, at least she will feel like she did everything possible and it wasn’t because she was missing this one piece!
My apologies if this has been asked and answered, but has anyone heard from the admissions office about WHEN the ED decisions will be released? Are we all just assuming December 14th?
@Hopper2019 we’ll get an email early December or maybe sooner about when the official date will be but I’m assuming that it’ll be Dec 14th like the other times
@Shocker - Thank you! Makes sense.
Does Ivy League do the same deadline? For cornell I’ve been told its the 10th
@MyGPAIsAnL My alumni interviewer said that all the ivy league schools send their ED decisions out on the same day. So maybe it’s the 10th if that’s the case?
@Meiyonnaise In the Cornell Chat apparently a parent asked the office and were told it was the 10th. Would make sense as previous year it was a monday
I went and checked the ED decision dates for class of 2022 at both Dartmouth and Cornell. Cornell released its ED decisions several days before Dartmouth last year (at least based on the CC posts).
Yeah, I think their RD dates are the same but ED/REA are different.
Hello! I’m new to this thread, but have a question to ask. Dartmouth recently emailed my guidance counselor and asked to see my first marking period grades before they make a final admissions decision. Is this procedural for all applicants, or does this indicate that they are split between accept/defer or defer/reject, and are going to use my latest grades as a deciding factor? Thanks for your help!
@2023hopeful – Great question. My sense is that the mid-semester grades are mandatory, but could be wrong. My hunch is that they are just trying to complete the file before reviewing, but I could be mistaken. Any others know?
@2023hopeful and @Hopper2019
Yes, first making period/quarter grades are necessary for all applicants. Good luck!!!
How much does EDing help at Dartmouth? Does anyone know the numbers
@BokysEdits I believe the acceptance rate was 28% last year (in comparison to RD’s 8%), but they often stress the fact that athletes make up a large portion of that change. That said, athletes probably don’t make up 20% of the ED accepted pool… So there may be a slight advantage to applying early.
Actually, I think it’s pretty likely that athletes could be 20 percent of ED. 23.7 percent of the total student body are varsity athletes!
@homerdog That’s actually so interesting – do you think that 4% of RD accepted students are varsity? To me, that feels low, but I don’t know anything about athlete acceptances lol.
I thought all athletes go ED?
Does anyone know what time decisions usually come out?
